Dear Coach Paul,

We have had a discussion on the rant, and we feel that it would be in the baseball teams best interest to pack it in for the rest of the season. I know you are probably thinking to yourself, "what the hell are you talking about, you stupid fool?" Give me a second to explain though. The rant feels, that because of your recent lack of success in post season play, and due to losing some midweek games at home this season, that you should travel for a regional and super regional. THAT IS CORRECT...WE WILL BE BETTER OFF PLAYING ON THE ROAD. We, on the rant, feel that winning now will cause your players to expend too much "mental energy" trying to earn a national seed, and SEC Championship. Due to all this mental energy spent, we feel that you will not have enough left to make a post season run. So, you see, this is why it's best not to really worry about the upcoming series with Mississippi State. You should also not worry about the SEC Tournament. Let's instead use that time wisely to store up our mental energy in preparation for a run at the CWS Championship.

Best wishes (not really though...we want your arse fired),

The Rant

have given Mainieri crap for going all out to win the SEC Tourney. I think that's what he could mean about being burnt out by Regionals/Supers.
Some years, like 2012 and 2014, he's probably had to. Others like 2013 and 2015, there wasn't a need.

TBH most of us want a national seed so we can booze it up at Alex Box one more time this season.

This. The atmosphere and tailgating for a Super is a weekend when Alex Box is second to none, and "the greatest fans in college baseball" truly earn the title.

I'll repeat... The last 5 national champs were not National Seeds.

But, hey, y'all feel free to go cower in the corner if LSU doesn't land that must-have National Seed.

No one is doing that... Your narrative is shite.

Hardly.

Read through this thread again and look at all of the folks putting their eggs in the national seed basket. Mercy me! LSU has never won a road regional! (Except that one at A&M that got the ball rolling, of course.) If someone suggests a National Seed isn't a must-have, we get this kind of tripe:

quote:

[Hey Coach Paul,] we feel that it would be in the baseball teams best interest to pack it in for the rest of the season. [...] The rant feels [...] that you should travel for a regional and super regional.

This pretty much sums up the fears of rational discussion from some of you tards who shudder at the thought that LSU might have to go on the road in postseason. Instead of a discussion of how the stats tell a story, you want to keep shooting folks who don't want to throw in the towel should LSU not measure up to the Cmte.

My point was simple. Take a breath and realize that more national seeds have been sitting at home watching Omaha in the last 5 years than attending.

So, enjoy the weekend series in StarkVegas and, should LSU not be a national seed, enjoy the regional we will surely host. Beyond that, everything else might not be as dire as some of you believe.

Super Regional. I said that. You're ignoring it. The point is that it is tougher to get to Omaha on the road. Is it necessary? Of course not. No one has made that claim, yet you are pretending they are because that's the whole basis of your point in this thread. You are literally making shite up.

So, in your opinion, do you think LSU has a better chance to make Omaha without hosting a super regional? If so, why?

Yes, only 40% of the national seeds have made it to Omaha in the last 5 years but 60% of the teams in Omaha in last 5 years hosted a Super Regional. The key to getting to Omaha is home field advantage.

In the Last 10 years:
67.5% of #1 seeds won their regional
67.5% of Super Regional hosts made it to the CWS
48.75% of National Seeds made it to the CWS
22.5% of #1 seeds not National Seeds made it to the CWS
20% of the last 10 champions were National Seeds
60% of the last 10 champions hosted a Super Regional

no. I haven't come remotely close to saying that. You may be confusing my comments with jlntiger's.

So then you do think LSU has a better chance to make Omaha by hosting a super regional?

I think everybody gets that it is very possible to make it to the CWS without having a national seed. I don't think anybody in here said that the only path to Omaha is through getting a national seed.

Your idea in this thread, was that maybe it's better if LSU doesn't get a national seed. Which is just flat out stupid.

Thanks for this. I've been wanting these numbers since they thread was started, but was too lazy to do it myself.

This right here makes your entire thread dumb OP. How are you going to argue against this number? Since you pick and choose which numbers you wanted to use to help it support your argument.
