I like Blackened Brew, although the tap list is definitely the highlight. I wasn't very impressed with the food or the service when they first opened, but it's gotten a lot better and I do like their burgers/apps.

Not sure when this was but I've come to learn the bar is the best seat in the house. I know when they opened I had horrible service and bland food, even some beer issues. However, each time I've gone it has gotten a bit better. Maybe it is because I'm sitting at the bar, maybe they've worked out some kinks.

eating at the bar anywhere in Hammond is always the right call
service levels at most places are seriously lacking

so I almost always eat at the bar

tonite we ate at mariners and the wife wanted to sit outside
the service was comical

You are absolutely correct. I always opt to sit at the bar. In this instance my mom was with us and I shite you not they tried to sit 3 of us at a 2 top. There were no other tables and the server balked when I suggested pulling a second table together to make us more comfortable. The manager made a snide comment like "I knew you were gonna bitch about that"

Mariners service can be hit or miss, I don't think they have assigned tables, everyone just kind of floats. Outside service is usually the worst but the atmosphere is nice.

I've always noticed the service at almost everywhere in Hammond is below average. I thought it was because it's mostly college kids, but so is stuff around Baton Rouge and it's not that bad on average.

of all places la carretta has the most consistently good table service.
they clearly have a training program and you never get the feeling you are at the mercy of the wait staff as to whether or not you'll be seeing food or drink anytime soon. too many places in Hammond let the waitstaff run the place

in any event sitting at the bar ensures prompt beverages and i enjoy bullshitting with the bartender if it's not too busy. tope la is a great place to eat at the bar as well as the steak place and iron horse
