Dauber and I were in town today recruiting. We are ambivalent towards the monuments as out of towners but please consider this anecdote:
We sat in traffic for probably 20 minutes at a fairly major intersection within which an RTA bus had broken down. There were no city vehicles to be found in aid of the bus, nor were there any police to direct traffic. This was at approximately 5:30 this evening.
One can debate the merits of the removal of the statues however if I were a taxpayer I would question why already limited resources are being used for items which on the surface appear to be symbolic over substance.

We have 1030 police officers in this city and of that only 570 actually are police officers who are on the beat. You should just be thankful you didn't get shot.
