Am I Wrong For Thinking This? (Military Related)

Backstory, I joined the USMC 4 years ago, I'm a reservist so our contracts are 6 years active reserves and 2 years inactive reserves. I'm in the infantry (0341 mortarman)
All the active guys that I went to SOI and boot camp with that also went infantry have deployed. I have never deployed, done some great training that assured me that I feel like myself, as well as my unit, are ready to deploy.
This is my conundrum, I feel like if I never deploy that it may as well have been a slight waste of time. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I joined the Marines and I'm proud that I feel ready to deploy, but I feel like I'll never truly be a Marine if I don't ever deploy. And me being a grunt, that means a combat deployment.
I don't want a war or anything necessarily, but I also want to know, at least in some way, what Marines have gone through before me at places like Belleau Wood or Okinawa or Chosin or Khe Sahn or Fallujah. Am I wrong for thinking that my time in the Marine Corps will be wasted if I never deploy and get to do my job?

Count your blessings and thanks for your willingness

FWIW... it's much better to be home wishing you were deployed than to be deployed wishing you were home.
A true warrior doesn't look for war, he looks for peace. War is always there if you look for it. When it finds the warrior then he must fight.
Being prepared for war is not a waste.......

Wel do your duty and refuse a pay check and benifits. Don't use the VA or the GI bill.... why milk the tax payers when you didn't 'earn' it?
Right?
Right?

I guess you're right, the nation calls for us to be ready and I feel like my unit at least is ready.

Never served.
You did your job. You showed up. You have zero say where you were put or were needed.
I graduated high school 1991. Guys older than me who joined the service went nowhere. It was peacetime?

U
I'll be surprised if we still lined up at the DMZ in 15 years at this rate. Fat boy needs to do nothing but play it cool if he wants the US out of he rectum.

Friend of mine was stationed in Japan for a while then Cuba.. I'm completely ignorant to the inner workings of the military
Does one choose to go the route of being stationed in some random country for a year or so vs just being a reserve that goes to drill once a month?

The ICBM's in subs and silos have never been used..... but they are by no means a waste...

No, you can choose your job but you can't choose your post.

So some people randomly get chosen to go to various countries while others stay home living a regular life? I thought that was the difference between reserves/active

I've been in the Navy for several years now and I have yet to deploy. I kinda feel the same way sometimes, but I have to remind myself that my time will come. Even if it doesn't, I was always here, trained, and willing to go at any time for any reason. I guess that's what really counts.

Yes there is, you choose whether to go active or reserve. Now, once you choose your job in active, your post is up to HQMC. It's kinda the same thing with reserves. Once you choose your job, they put you at a drill center that is used for your job. Usually the closest one from where your recruiter's office is. I was lucky, an infantry company was in my hometown so I don't have to leave and go potentially hours away for a weekend drill.

Yeah you are wrong. We don't make the wars. You signed the check, the govt just hasn't cashed it yet. My entire 8 years was peace time

It's not wrong. You have wanted to serve and you feel that you haven't done enough.
As others have said, your main job is to be prepared, not necessarily to be deployed. Our military's #1 job is to protect our homeland and step one of doing that is to be a deterrent. No country wants to frick with the USA because they know that this country has guys like you ready to frick them up at a moment's notice. Take pride in that.
Thanks for your service.

If you serve honorably I say no it is not wasted. You were just never deployed which happens sometime.

Dude, you need to steal some valor and get laid!
Posted on 5/14/17 at 10:56 pm to TigerFanInSouthland
I was so jealous of you frickers 4 years ago after SOI when you guys got sent home and I got sent to the fleet
Don't worry though man, no guarantee you would have seen combat. I went to boot camp early 2013 (Active Duty) and am an 0311. Never been on a combat deployment. I know the feeling it sucks
