Why do Snap-On, Matco, etc toolboxes cost more than a compact car?

We know they will last longer
But yeah shite like that always seems extremely over priced

Until Yeti decides to make a toolbox.

Yeti, Mercedes, etc. People pay way more for a name than the actual quality.

Got a bunch of salesman driving around trucks on payroll.

Aren't they independent contractors?

Yes the tool boxes are better and American made.

However in general the brands stay in business because of their payment plans and on site service

How many mechanics have had toolboxes repoed?
Posted on 5/11/17 at 8:34 pm to stout
They last and last.
Bought Snap-On upper and lower tool chest back in mid '70s.
Still have it. Will pass it on to my son.
Full of mostly Snap-On and Craftsmen tools.
Was airplane and helicopter mechanic for many years, retired now. In the end you get what you pay for.

A lot.
The quality is superior if you use them everyday versus at home use.
If you have drawers loaded to the max with tools and you open and close them hundreds of times a day they can be worth it.
I have a three tier Mac box setup with two hanging cabinets on each side. I bought the setup after it was repowed. I don't hardly use it anymore but I got my money out of it.
It's been sitting in my garage hardly being used. I have a buyer that will take it for what I paid for it and I will downgrade to something from Lowes or Home Depot or maybe Craftsmen.

My dad sold tools for mac back in the 90s. Got out when they overlapped his territory with some one else.
I think we still have tools we have never used.
Yes, it's a higher quality probably not necessary for the weekend warrior.

Surprisingly very few. Snap On guy just follows the dude to the next shop and collects his money.
It is the goofiest thing i have ever seen with snap on reps and mechanics. Its like he's selling crack and they can not let him go without at least buying a screwdriver. I've seen uneducated wrench turner types blow half their paychecks on a new tool..... but they're financing so it feels ok.

I know one guy who did. You basically have to not pay the payment for like a year. They are independent contractors too.

Agreed. Toolboxes and tools are only worth it, if you use them. I bought an old Kennedy from a friend. I'm a machinist. It can handle the weight. Lowes and Home Depot boxes will not. Snap on should work for a mechanic.
Just look around and see what everyone else is using. Then ask why.
