i'm on the fence. neither alexa nor home properly control hue lights.
alexa can't figure out names if you change the names of lights without deleting everything and reimporting all your shite.
home seems to not import all the hue lights so about half dont work.
growing pains i'm sure.

I've used the dot to play music for my daughter plenty of times. She doesn't really care if it is coming from the echo or dot, she's 2.5, it entertains her either way. It does an ok job of playing music when you are just screwing around in the kitchen and you don't have to take up space. Ours is hidden underneath a cabinet.

Yes i am. I know quite a few people with both google home and alexa and no one even uses one of the skills/actions much less 10.
Having to say "Alexa speak to xxx skill" or doing the same with google home loses 99% of people immediately.

my names weren't voice friendly. i have a gold lamp with an osram bulb i named 'gold osram lamp' and alexa cant understand that.
the other one was a disaster..i have a lamp in the shape of an owl so i called it the 'owl light'.
the other night i was sneaking to the laundry room while the SO was rocking the baby and i said to alexa 'turn on the owl light'.
well alexa thought i said 'ALL LIGHTS'...

I agree, the Harmony skill was like that for me. I can say " Echo, tell Harmony turn on Roku" or " Echo, tell Harmony got to Netflix" and it works great.

Are you sure HA is an actual skill? Because GH takes care of all that naturally.

For HA i do not. Like i said it is natural. But for silly little recipe skills/actions as an example it loses its luster when you have to tell the assistant to access that skill/action first.

I really don't see the problem.
My point is saying one has 10,000 skills is somehow better than another have 1,000 skills is pointless. They dont get used. There are probably 10-20 skills that both have that are used by 90% of customers. Outside of that its just garbage/fluff.
And even the ones that do get used some are pretty pointless for a lot of people.

You don't have to enable skills with Alexa-enabled Amazon devices anymore. You just use the call word and utilize the command. Hello and welcome to late March!

Which is idiotic. As a consumer product, you want to cast as large of a net across as wide of a demographic set as you can in order to appeal (read: sell) to as many potential buyers of your products as possible.
People have different interests, tastes, wants, needs, likes & preferences. The more differentiation you can give to everyone the better.
Who cares if you only use 10-20. Your 10-20 may be another person's unused skills altogether. But they have their own 10-20 that they prefer. That may or may not be completely unlike your own.
Having more appeals to a wider audience, which makes your product's appeal far greater to said larger audience, which drives sales and increases and helps maintain market share.
Your point is idiotic. At best.

Isn't that what i just said. You don't have to enable them in GH either, still doesnt make them that useful.

Anyone seen the new Echo Show that was release today. Will be pretty awesome for further home automation. New voice calls and messaging coming between all echo devices. Video calls and apps with new Echo Show.
