What line do I put on my bait caster?

I was recently gifted an ambassadeur. I am not the best with bait casters, but I want to make this my go to pole. Using it for saltwater. I've made the mistake of putting braid on a bait caster before. So I want to go with mono. I just haven't used mono in a long time so I'm not really sure what's what.
Recommendations appreciated.

Why do you consider this a mistake? I use nothing but braid on my baitcasters saltwater fishing.

Agree. Braid casts better than any other line on my reels.

Buy you a bottle or braid aid to spray on the line every now and again. You will never have a issue

Mostly fresh water fishin, but I've always liked tried and true 12 lb. Stren for most any reel any application.
Currently using Pline CXX, and by comparison to the Stren the 12 lb. test is much stronger but also much stiffer, larger diameter. I feel like it would be great for salt water applications.

Berkley Big Game #20 is damn good in saltwater. Braid wouldn't be a bad choice either. Power Pro Slick is my go to.

All bait casters will backlash regardless of which line you put on it if its not set properly. The key to not backlashing a bait caster is having the reel set correctly for the weight of the bait your throwing.

40# suffix 832 is my recommendation. It has a short break-in period, and after that it's as smooth as silk. I love that stuff. Waaaay better than regular power pro and a little more durable the PP Super Slick (which would be my second recommendation.

This. Braid or mono makes not a bit of difference. Both with backlash if tension knob is too loose and your not use to throwing it. It would be wise to start off with 12-20 lb mono (I personally like Ande). Its cheaper than braid so if you have to cut it all out and start over again with fresh line its not a problem.
