So i know they contended with state, and we also struggled with them last year. But besides that... are they good anywhere? Really believe a strong run game will give us a comfortable win, but just in case someone else has studied up on them, maybe one of you can provide info.

I watched a few of their 2016 games recently. I don't know who they are returning from 2016 so I can only offer some generalizations. Athletically, they are no match for LSU, particularly team speed. The BYU defense couldn't handle State's offense last season so I assume that LSU will give them fits, too. However, they are well coached and play very tough, physical football. If LSU shows up and doesn't commit turnovers and penalties, LSU will roll. Otherwise, it will be a fight.

Expect us to look similar to how we always look.

The dominant defensive play and overall talent differential means LSU will pull away late in the 3rd.

The offensive struggles mean the game will be closer than it should be but we are too talented not to break off a few big runs.

Hopefully Canada doesn't come out and try to force the issue of "balance". If we're throwing it well, great, but if not, break out the power run we know works.

I still have nightmares from the opener last year if we had quit trying to force the issue of a balanced attack and had our normally 70/30 run/pass split...

Their stud RB is gone.
BYU is a sneaky team.
A lot of older kids due to Mormon missions.
I would not want to play a team like that in Provo.
In Houston, I think LSU wins big.

If BYU can sustain things on the ground they can play ball control and be successful that way.
If not, LSU should roll.

They are essentially a weaker version of what Wisconsin was the last two times we played them. I expect our defense to give them fits but our offense might struggle if we can't easily run the ball.

Anything less than 14+ win will be disappointing

The fact that they get a tune-up game before we do is kinda frustrating.

The only two times I remember this happening is ASU in 05 and Miss St. in 2015, unless I'm forgetting one.

Tanner Mangum is a good QB. They will test us vertical. This will be the key.

We should have them outclassed all over the field, but they will be scrappy. The biggest thing in BYU's favor is they will have already played a game and made week 1 improvements. (See Virginia Tech 2002). That makes a huge difference playing a team with a whole new offense.

This wont work if we use this ratio again this year....hello 8-4.

We must start passing effectively ( in long yardage situations at least) to extend drives and move the chains.

Guice and Key gonna eat! Aranda's youngsters mature quickly but Ranters lose minds over offense not putting up 700+ yards and 80 points!
