Tigers #12 in latest ESPN pre-season poll (football)

Is this about where y'all expected them to be at this point? I know it's not an official poll and won't be the last one, but figured I'd share. I figured we'd be in the 9-12 range so this isn't too surprising. Only real surprise to me was Oklahoma State at #6.

Outlook: Ed Orgeron's first spring did little to alleviate LSU fans' lingering concerns about the team's offense. Returning starting quarterback Danny Etling struggled mightily during the spring game, and then he underwent minor back surgery when spring practice was over. The bad news for new offensive coordinator Matt Canada: Neither Justin McMillan nor early enrollee Lowell Narcisse seemed ready to push Etling. In fact, Orgeron wants to see incoming freshman Myles Brennan play before he names a starter. Another concern for the Tigers: Star defensive end/linebacker Arden Key hasn't participated in football activities since February for unexplained personal reasons. Orgeron has said he hopes that Key returns to the team at some point this summer.

We have been ranked about 12 since 2012. So tired of being irrelevant

im a little surprised that auburn is ahead of us, but thats ok because they will be pretty legit this year.

I think that's fair based on the past few seasons. We're also hard to project with the coaching changes.

Doesn't matter if you win

Their Defense is gonna drop back to earth. Lost some good DLinemen and Kevin Steele defenses don't get better.

Pretty sure Joe Montana would "struggle mightily" if he had to play behind a line that performed as poorly as the one Etling had that night. Having zero time or space to look downfield and step up in the pocket can make even the best QBs look mediocre. I just worry that Etling's lack of running ability and shiftiness will limit Canada in terms of the variety of plays he can call.

idk man. Auburn will have a good mix this year i think. They should have a nice qb if malzahn doesnt screw with his head. But it will be a dog fight for first in the west between Bama LSU Auburn, and maybe Miss State

How can you be ranked AND irrelevant?

Botton line, Offense will still struggle at times because of this. It's going to be the SOS with OL inconsistency and mental breakdowns.
Last shot here for Grimes to show that he can coach and make this bunch productive. Hope that he does it, but I don't see it happening.............

I just love that people always forget that we were top 5 for most of 2015 and started their last year. If you're mentioned up their at any point you are NOT irrelevant. Period.
Yes it didn't finish how we started but most never get there at all.

have CLM as head coach

I love these articles. Etling went against the No. 1 defense in the Spring game. A similar defense to the one the made the Heisman-award-winning QB look like Brandon Harris in our last game. The offense had 14 practices. Half the OL was missing.

Having your head coach on every ESPN show repping your school. Yeah, how irrelevant. LSU has been pulling top players out of states like Ohio, Oklahoma, New Jersey, the Carolinas. That's not where LSU usually gets guys. The brand is bigger and the recruiting base is larger.

personally with LSU losing a lot of defense i don't think LSU is worthy of top 20... LSU has no reason to believe they will be doing any better than 8-4 this season or any other season coach O is head coach for the tigers.

Grimes did well last year minus the bama game. And no Oline did very select against them. We return our T's which should mean improvement. We lose a great C but clapp won't be a big drop off imo. I hope etlings back improves and he throws
The ball well. If he can't then we might as well put a running threat at qb and utilize Guice and the qb option game on offense.

LSU still has to deal with the poor QB recruiting by Miles for one more year. I doubt we can get as lucky as Bama did with Jalen Hurts.
