That's a good question. To me, it means an alt with a really unique use, technology and/or purpose -- not just some made up pump and dump that the creators know is really going nowhere from day 1.

How are you able to discern which alts actually have unique uses and technology vs. a typical pump and dump?

Just have to research them. It’s fairly easy to tell once you have an eye for the crypto space

What things do you look for to verify that a particular coin does what it is advertised/marketed to do?

See, that’s the thing. Many of us don’t even know what we’re looking at.

In stocks, I know what $1 is.
I know what revenue is.
I know a tad bit about what seems like an idea that would be successful in today’s business and consumer world.

I don’t know a f’n think about the terminology used in crypto.

Do you know how to read code at least on a basic level? All crypto is in fact software.

Before I invested in btc and etc, I read everything I could to gain an understanding about the technology. It was way over my head at first and a lot of it still is to be honest, but I slowly started to understand the basics the more I read about it. Once I was fairly confident that it was a real technology that was here to stay, I invested some and kept reading about it. It was still a very risky investment, so I invested accordingly.

When btc went to the 20k all time high, I took 1/2 out and let the rest ride. All my friends later got out altogether when btc and eth crashed. I didn't because I was confident that crypto were the future. I really wish that I would have invested more at that moment, but I at least didn't abandon ship and invested a little more.

Now that I thin I'm ready to branch out into alts a bit, I'm looking to others who have already done the research for recommendations. I'll then do my own research and make the plunge with the goal of making lots of money in alts that will later be transferred to btc and/or eth for holding longterm.

I don't know how to read code, but I do have a good feel for b.s. when I'm reading it. When I read a lot of the negative articles about bitcoin, it seemed really obvious to me that it was just a bunch of scared old dudes that weren't comfortable with technology or intellectual property. They couldn't wrap their minds around the fact that they couldn't actually place the bitcoins in their chubby little hands.

I've never treated it as an investment , just as a wild arse gamble.

Honestly I've done VERY well with this thread and I really don't have confidence in the tech or future, just along for the ride.

I do have weekly auto-buy for ETH & BTC on Coinbase. My wife and I are lucky to be well compensated and have disposable income. A couple hundred here& there in alts, 2-5% of a work bonus , that sort of stuff can buy a shite ton of alts on binance. That equals less Astros games and keeping running shoes a few weeks longer than normal, nothing crazy. We just got a random check for over paying for an MRI through insurance so , poof, 65 bucks in an alt..that kind of stuff.

I've settled on this gamble/play --> Buy the cheapest alt on Binance to pay off my mortgage if it hits a dollar. Move to the next one, rinse and repeat. Like VTHO a few months ago..355K shares for 287 bucks...that is a nice dinner and some crap my wife buys from Amazon over a week.

Once the money is gone , I never expect it back. If just one goes ape shite crazy during a pump I've traded a steak for a Chevy Traverse.

I did buy a cheap android pad to prop on my desk, bring to bed with me, carry when I travel with over 10 crypto apps with multiple alerts set for each coin. If something was pumping overnight/early I've taken a few days of FTO to watch and sell.

I'm not the dude from here that made millions but I have not used savings for a vacation in a couple years , just dip into Coinbase.

So I believe fully in these smaller alta

ada (cardano)- currently sitting around 75 cents. This is a block chain that is based on more traditional computer programming language giving it a huge leg up on recruiting programmers. It has the best inter operability of any of the chains.

The graph (grt) - it queries and index blockchains. Currently only on eth, but it was just released that they would be working on a protocol to expand this to the dot, btc, and other chains. Think of it as the Google search of block chains.

Unfi- read this

I think unfi Is a much better play from here than aave due to price for transactions and the 10 million cap on tokens.

Cosmos(atom) another block chain with a ton of upside mainly based on the speed, scalability and inter operability.

Dot- again another block chain with lots of upside again mainly due to interoperability.

Of course chainlink. Within 3 years chainlink and grt will be mainstays on every chain. CE can explain more on link than I ever could.

I also like potential of VET but that's more along the lines of it essentially bringing blockchain tech and smart contracts to logistics.

Aave is a good coin, but like Mark Cuban said this week, it can't work with the way the fees are. Aave is essentially a lending protocol or a defi lending institution made up of people staking coins and lending them through pools. I think unfi is a better bet long term but aave has a 15x head start.

Avalanche is another chain that prolly has the best overall tech but its not on coinbase.

So ranking them and what I think they will do from current price, conservatively

Link-2.5x
Grt-4x
Ada-4x
Unfi-7x
Dot-4x
Cosmos- 5x
Vet- 15x

But if that's assuming eth only does 2x from here. The more eth goes up, the more defi sky rockets.

This was typed on my phone, If I messed something up lmk

As you can see I don't play alot or recommend shite coins.

Now that's not to say I won't play a random shite coin to ride for a quick 20/3] even 50% gain.

But I don't consider that investing more of almost insider trading on a penny stock. With the graph analysis that I post on the discord it's almost like insider trading. Hardly ever do the coins go down once the bull signals are formed on the graphs and then you have a really good idea where the target sell points are so unless you get dumb and don't sale it is rare you would lose money either.

I just consider that growing my balance sheet lol.

There are literally hundreds of coins on cmc.

Wtf do all of these coins do? Is there a coin that specializes in toasting bread? And maybe another that allows the holder to morph into a llama.

Obviously I am being facetious here...but how in the hell is anyone outside of crypto nerds going to take the time to understand and maybe even actually use all of this shite? Is the intent even to bring crypto to the masses or is it supposed to remain a fringe currency with little "real world" usage that is bounced around like a hot potato from founders to exchanges to bag holders?

There’s one coin that is currency, it’s btc. Anything trying to be a digital currency won’t last. You need to look into the application layers of the blockchain. I’ll make a post soon explaining this
