OT Home Repair Experts -- a bathroom question UPDATE WITH PICS

When I bought my home a year ago, they wrote up on the inspection that the bathtub was separating from the wall. It was barely noticeable at the time, and we were advised to pursue some other repairs. A year later now, it has separated a bit more and its time to address.
Can I just caulk it? Is there a special type of caulk I'll need to use? Any further thoughts?
UPDATE: Here are some pics. What should I do about this.

If its separating more and more, caulk will only cover it temporarily. You need to stop the movement.

I was gonna tell you to call Pepe... but then I remembered he's dead.

A picture would be helpful.

Wtf does that even mean? Is the tub somehow sliding away from your wall? I don't see how that's possible. Maybe it's something that happens over time, but I've never heard of it. I'd want to know why it's "separating from the wall." You should caulk it either way because you don't want water getting under your tub. As for the type of caulk, just go to lowes or HD and get tub and tile caulk. It usually comes in clear or white.

sounds like you have a leak somewhere and the sub floor is rotting and sagging

Is the wall separating from the tub or the tub separating from the wall?

Sound like your tub has a drywall flange and it may have been flexed (stetched) to fit the opening instead of furring out the wall with lumber past the flange prior to hanging sheetrock.
If this is the case, you will need to fit out the wall for a permanent fix.

These toys are way to heavy. Why you did this, Baw? You tearing the wall down.

I eat too much Mexican food for my bathrooms in my house not to have windows.
I am envious of you, even if your bathtub is collapsing on itself.

It doesn't look like the tub itself and the wall is one piece. Can probably just get some contact glue back there then use an adjustable shower curtain rod to hold it in place until it dries

You need to get some adhesive in there like a high end liquid nails, then you need to put something in to press that panel back, like a truck bed separator or a joist jack or a twist to tighten shower rod.
That looks like a re-bath job.

Looks like that bathtub insert wasn't made to the right dimensions and is a little smaller than the opening. Probably a relatively cheap fix. I say "relatively cheap" because repairs can soar sometimes. Maybe less than $2,000 to replace the entire thing with the correct demensions.

If you are in Mississippi, do you happen to live in an area where there is yazoo clay soil?...if so, can you see where that clay is pulling away from your house foundation?

Reposition that shower curtain rod to push the shower wall back to the Sheetrock wall and caulk the hell out of it.
Or buy some plastic strips to close the gap and caulk the hell out of it.
Either way, caulk the hell out of it. And stop the wall from falling on the neighbors property.

Lightly pull it away from the wall. Don't force it. Check behind for mold and moisture. If there's none put a shite ton of power grab behind it and keep it pressured against the sheetrock. Let it dry a few hours and caulk all the edges. Paint to cover up any damage.
Just did the same thing at a remodel. Worked like a champ. Had an 8' 2x4 cut it down to wedge across shower after putting power grab. Done.
