Only because he has NO competition since he has been playing. I would drool over a Wimbledon final like this.

Honestly though, who was Sampras' biggest competition in his prime Wimbledon runs? Ivanisevic? Kraijek?

Not saying Sampras wasn't great, but Agassi was the only constant competition during Pete's prime. Hewitt was just coming up, and I guess Patrick Rafter could be put up there as well. I'd say Nadal and Djokovic will be good rivals for Fed over the next few years.

I agree about the Sampras-Federer match-up though. It would be a great match.

I'm too much of an Agassi fan, and Federer taking the career grand slam would take a little away from Andre

I kind of feel like this too, but I actually like Federer more than Sampras, so I'd like to see him do something Sampras could never do.

Even though not in the same category, I have similar liking of Roddick as I did for Sampras...not really affected by their play. I do like James Blake though.

I don't know, I love Agassi but Federer is just stunning to watch.

I know but I can't help it. I am the same age as Agassi and I followed his entire career. I loved watching him set up a point and just punish the other guy.

I love Novak Djokovich's emotion. He is great to watch.

I'm going to the Pacific Life Open in march. Federer lost to Canas last year before I got to see him play. I watched some of his doubles match but it wasn't the same. Another great thing about Federer is his interaction with the fans. I have some friends that saw him in a gift shop and said he was incredibly gracious and friendly. He signed autographs and took pictures with the kids. I chatted with his Dad during a women's match. Nice guy.

Everything I've heard about Federer is positive, even players that have just lost to him praise him for being a really nice guy. Great representative for Tennis.

I'm a big fan of both, and I always hope they'll do better. We need some young American superstars on both sides of the game.

I was trying to tell my friend we were gonna see the end of the Federer era this year, siting tennis players peaking quite early and at 26 going on 27 that he was already past his prime

"Of course, I've created a monster, so I know I need to always win every tournament," Federer said with a frown. "Winning every other week, lose a set and people say I'm playing bad. So it's my own mistake, I guess."

Great to see someone beat this guy in a slam other than the French. I'm a big Agassi and Sampras fan myself, haven't watched much tennis since they retired, because Federer just mows over everyone. I really wish we could have seen Sampras in his prime against Federer in his, would have been a Hell of a match IMO.

I dig this out pretty deep, but i just wanted to stroke my ego for calling the end of federer's dominance a year ago.

the fact that you "sited" it would be novak taking over, federer has still played in something like 17 of the last 18 grand slam finals, and you don't know the difference between the words cited and "sited" makes you look like a pretty big idiot. FAIL

ETA i never said djok was gonna take over either, the title comes from the fact that he had just beat him in the AO
