Houma.
You people think Baton Rouge is cool and 30A is paradise.

I guess I'm a weirdo freak. I am very happy in BR. I love my job. Love my house. Have great neighbors. Love my church. Family is close by. Love being able to go to any LSU sporting event I want. I can be at the condo on the beach in 4 hours. If you're a miserable person, you're going to be miserable no matter where you live.

Spas, resorts, shopping, bars, great restaurants.
There are literally hundreds of cities which meet these criteria, and also which don't require living on the surface of the sun for 5 months out of the year. I have a friend who lives off Via Linda - I've been to Scottsdale plenty of times. It's like a city personally designed by Guy Fieri

What? Literally the only worse places in the country I've been is Newark and Detroit. I would live in Fayetteville, Jackson, Orlando, Houma, and even Mobile way before I even considered moving back to the shite hole that is Baton Rouge.
Are you completely retarded? I can name half a dozen cities in the central valley of California alone which make Baton Rouge look like an utter paradise

The desert life isn't for everyone. But a huge portion of Scottsdale population is transplants from other states, people that chose to leave they states they are from to relocate here.
Some of the pretty plastic Scottsdale people that live here are annoying and pretentious, don't get me wrong. I don't hang with that crowd luckily and just enjoy what the city offers without getting sucked into some of the culture
(Can we at least both agree that Scottsdale is several times better than Baton Rouge? )

I got a PM saying I can't say "blacks" anymore but how diverse is your community?

81% white
10% Hispanic or Latino
4% Asian
2% 2 more races
1% African American
1% Native American
ETA: it was like 92% white with the 2000 census

I left NOLA in 2005. Love being by the mountains and most of my family had already moved to the Las Vegas area. 3 years of Air Force life in California made me appreciate the west. I still miss many things about South Louisiana and NOLA (especially many of the people) but I can always come back and visit when I feel the need.
As nurse said, you can get tired of the desert and the blast furnace dry heat in summer...but just a short drive away are places like Flagstaff, Sedona or Big Bear. Places with much more temperate summer climates and in the middle of lush forests. You're also a half day's drive away (at most) from the Pacific beaches and the incredible natural wonders of places like the Grand Canyon and Zion NP. Plus, being able to sleep a little late on Autumn weekends and have football on the TV just as you get up doesn't suck.
ETA: After 40+ years in NOLA...I can attest to the fact that there's something to be said for this whole "living above sea level" thing.

I grew up in Opelousas and visit frequently.. that tends to keep my perspective about BR positive
Posted on 4/23/17 at 12:10 am to Hulkklogan
I am happy living in BR. Used to live in the River Parishes so BR is more progressive. When I'm on vacation, I have no bad feelings about going back home. Actually, quite the opposite. I live in a nice neighborhood and am close to a lot of things I like to do. It's not small town like I used to live in where everyone knew your business. I like that. Close to LSU and all the stuff going on there.

You must be trolling. Jackson makes BR look like Beverly Hills.

What's the main differences between Jackson and Baton Rouge? Cause I don't see any
Posted on 4/23/17 at 7:56 am to yellowfin
Have you been to Jackson? The entire city proper is an intolerable hellscape.
Posted on 4/23/17 at 8:06 am to LSUTigersVCURams
I have. Several friends when to milsaps and I sold crawfish to several restaurants there for 4 years. It's not much different than Baton Rouge
