Son made 9 generations born in BR. It's home.

Once I'm done with school in BR I'm planning to move to the Saint Street area. Walk to Old Tyme and football games. Short uber downtown. Can't wait.
Just ditch Olde Tyme for Pop's and you'll be living the good life

Hard to beat a night of The Wurst Biergarten followed by a Pop's sandwich, a nice shite, and a good drunken night's sleep.

how's the biergarten been these days? i haven't been since last summer

Busier, bigger. They added another bar and a tent in the back with more seats. Last time I went they were sold out of pretty much everything though.

held off on buying a home until they see how things play out. If St. George happens and Broome is forced to raise taxes to offset the lost revenue, things will get interesting.
Exactly. There was a house in spanish town that I was primed to buy, but after thinking on it for a few days I ended up holding off. I refuse to be stuck in Gravyland if St. George happens.
There's nothing I despise more than the black hole of suck that is renting, but it's what I'll keep doing until it's settled.

To be fair you'd have to give me a mansion to get me to live in the Phoenix area too, can't really blame her

Too hot and humid in B. R. so you wanted to move to N. O.?

I have several friends who are doing the same. They've held off on buying a home until they see how things play out.
Do they have children? Plan on children? If children, are they in private, public, magnet? If single, do they enjoy sitting in traffic? Do they enjoy doing stuff, going out, etc.? Are they waiting for homes to get MORE expensive and interest rates to go up? There are so many variables here.
If they think "nice" BR areas or the unincorporated areas are gonna get cheaper they are making a bad decision waiting. Even shite Jackson, MS has nice areas in the city limits with prices either stable or climbing somewhat. And BR will NEVER get that bad as long as LSU, EXXON, state government and yes, even Southern U are here.
Should St. George happen it could be 4-5 years before any new schools break ground to handle the influx of children. And it takes time to identify the best teachers and principles and to establish a good school system. Hell, one of the main persons responsible for the success of the Zachary school system is now in charge of EBR parish schools.
If single they are gonna get taxed regardless. There is absolutely zero guarantee taxes won't go up in a new city...Commuting across town costs time, money & sanity. Seriously, do the math. If these people have a life they are going to want to hang out in Downtown, near LSU, Overpass area Town Center, mid-city, etc. Why wouldn't they want to move nearer to those places?
Not trying to be anti st. George, but your friends should have all the info they need to make an educated decision NOW.

Honestly, I think several of them are considering leaving Louisiana altogether, not just the Baton Rouge area.

Scottsdale is not like the rest of the Phoenix area though.
It's a white woman's paradise out here. Spas, resorts, shopping, bars, great restaurants. Good public schools for the kids. Tons of parks to jog/bike/walk in. Plenty of golf courses for their husbands to play on while the women brunch and drink mimosas on a patio somewhere. Lots of places nearby to hike and be outdoors. Any type of trendy workout studio you could desire.
