Yeah im arguing with some little boy that thinks he understands physics yet he think less kinetic energy isnt safer.

Coastal Carolina seemed to be Mashing last year, looked like Skip's bunch out there.

Yeah. They were fun to watch. I was raised on guerilla ball and this small ball shite in omaha is sad.

Which ball carries more kinetic energy?
A ball traveling 100 mph?
A ball traveling 120 mph?
And a 9 oz ball traveling at 110 mph generates barely over a few tens Joules more energy than the same ball traveling at 90 mph, you dumb frick. ETA: and don't even try to claim it's a lot because the impact area of the ball is large enough for that increase to be barely significant. For example, a 45 cal bullet moving at 1000 fps has just 200 Nm more energy than the 90 mph fastball we are talking about.
ETA 2: 40 mps vs 49 mps and a 0.255 kg ball.
quote:UNC did a study, "little guy"...
The game is safer now compared to those guerilla ball bats.
Sorry little guy.
"From 1982 to 2011 in high school, there were 60 direct injuries ranging from serious (25) to fatal (12) were reported in high school baseball’s spring season." That's 30 years with about 2 injuries per year. In the first year of BBCOR bats??? 5 direct injuries and 4 classified as "serious".
Stick to football, retard.
ETA: The fact is that in both HS and college, the number of players who could generate these types of speeds even with the 2009 bats were and still are minuscule. The lines drives hit at pitchers, at any speed above 90 mph will do significant damage to the head although these instances are rare. Too rare for the type of reaction that took place in the name of "safety".

Well, I guess we don't pitch or play D too well, because we haven't been to Omaha often lately...

Been there 2 of the last 4 years. The problem is not getting to Omaha, the problem is winning once we're there.
Keep up.

Those 16-14 games were more like a neighborhood game of softball, imo.
But every metric points to college baseball as a whole now being better and it isn't even close

We are two games out of first... can we play the last half of the schedule? Damn

I enjoy watching the tigers play. It's frustrating at times but threads on TR are too, doesnt stop me from posting in them.

Skip has been saying the past few yrs that the ball & the bats are ok now but what makes Omaha so difficult is the stadium is built such that the winds are always blowing in towards home plate that time of the year. And CPM saw UCLA win 2 NC's going small ball with average size players. He knows who & what he is recruiting and why.

Thanks for proving my point dumbass. At no point did i say it's a lot safer. I said less kinetic energy makes its safer.

You clearly can't stick to the area of your degree.
If you admit that less speed on the ball means less energy then you have to admit that less energy is safer even if it's marginally very small.
If you could choose to get hit by a 100 mph pitch or 97 mph pitch youre picking 97 everytime because even if the difference in energy is small, it's present.

At no point did i say it made a big difference or was the right way to try to alleviate injuries.
I'm just saying a ball coming off of the new bats has less energy behind it.
Less energy equals less damage. Thusly making a ball coming off the new bats, safer. Even if it's .1% safer,it's safer.
But I digress. Love ya ell

no he's not.
Baseball, by its very nature, is a slow game, usually with little real action. A whole lot (a WHOLE LOT) of standing around where nothing happens.
So I fully admit I'm not a baseball fan. But even I loved watching college baseball 10 years ago when there was much more offense. No lead was safe. And that was fun and made the game more dramatic. So college baseball brought me in.....and then shut me out when they changed the bats and balls.
Now I don't want it to get ridiculous, and I'm not advocating for average scores of 20-18. But a 10-8 game is a hell of a lot more exciting that a 2-1 game. That's a yawner. "Pitchers' duel?" That just means nothing happens. An entire season of pitchers' duels will drive away all but the hardest-of-the-hardcore fans.
The game itself is dying a slow death, as youth participation is way down and the demographics of TV viewers (at least for MLB) skews largely to older folks. When they die off, there won't be many young folks to take their place.
But even I have to admit that I could watch the college game years ago with the different bats and balls. But now -- it's really hard to watch.
And no, I'm not alone.
I agree with all of this. People are not being objective if they do not see what's happening to baseball. College baseball is not the minor leagues. Bring back the home run!

Uh. The game is safer now compared to those guerilla ball bats.
If you're a pitcher, which bat would you want being used if someone hits a line drive right back towards your face?
I have never, ever seen a statistic that showed pitchers are more safe. I think this is such a bogus excuse. How many times in a season does this even happen to a team. 1x? The stories were rare then, and rare now where a pitcher actually got injured because of the bats.

There is a relatively easy fix to that problem, but the Omaha folks wouldn't like that because it would obscure the view of downtown from the park.
Arlington Stadium, home of the Texas Rangers from 1972-1993, had this same problem when it opened--the prevailing southerly wind blew in from right, or right center-field, and made the place a graveyard for power hitters. That is, until they installed a new wrap around scoreboard, probably 50 feet high, around the top of the outfield bleachers (which were somewhat reminiscent of the bleachers at Omaha). Once they did this, the wind went up and over the scoreboard, then bounced off the upper deck behind home plate and created a backwash, that actually worked like a jet stream and turned Arlington Stadium into a hitter's park overnight. The current Rangers ballpark maintains the same dynamic (home plate faces the same direction, and the wind, although blowing in, creates a backwash that helps the ball travel.
So, they could do something similar in Omaha to increase home runs, but it would ruin the aesthetic they were shooting for. Still, I think the NCAA needs to find a way to get this done. There aren't many college baseball fans longing for a return to gorilla ball, but most fans wouldn't object to some adjustments at Omaha to give hitters a fair chance.

That's what I was alluding too. CPM recruits players that remind him of himself, little scrappy, slap hitters.
