What? Leonard could run circles around shite arse Ingram, who is a number 1. Among others in the league.
You don't do what he did, in the sec, with the worst passing offense in the league, if you aren't damn good.

Could you imagine LF7 against 7 in the box and in space....whaaaaaat!

There is no doubt Fournette is an elite talent, one of the best pure RBs I've ever seen, but our offense is just not a good fit for him.
Go look at Denver with John Elway. He ran a prolific, pass-happy offense for years.
He got old and couldn't run it any longer, they became a run-first offense with an experienced QB at the helm, and won 2 Superbowls.
Switching to a run-first offense here, we could extend Brees' effective time by maybe 5 years.

Saints should trade up for Fournette. They need another face of the franchise since Brees does not have that many years left. Yes, the Saints have other needs but I believe Leonard is a HOF type player that they can't pass up.

Nothing like drafting your franchise face early.

Thanks for not being ugly. I don't think the situation is the same, though. Brees has shown zero sign of decline and we have showed zero signs of preparing to make a change like that. You could be right, they might be able to extend his career by changing the offense, but do you really expect Sean Payton to do that?
As our offense stands right now, Fournette is a bad fit for us. The guy has played his entire life running out of power formations and we play in the shotgun more than any other team in the NFL. We throw the ball more than any other team in the NFL. Fournette has 41 catches in 3 seasons - and yes, I know that LSU's offense is a big reason why. Doesn't change the facts though. Hard to project/scout what you haven't seen. As much as a player like Fournette could impact our offense, a player who can do a lot of both - like Le'Veon Bell - would be a way better fit for us.
Posted on 4/15/17 at 10:15 pm to Rand AlThor
Actually we played out of the shotgun formation only
43% of the snaps last year. I know it seemed like more but for as pass happy as our offense is that put us right dead in the middle of all the league as far as using this formation.

I would Love for us to get Fournette, but even if it were possible for him to fall out the top ten , I wouldn't want him in his hometown that's full of haters and quick to pull a trigger because they see he made it big . That's just the truth of the matter. Seems like everybody loves him and he has a heart of gold but some people just don't care. They'll stab you in the back over jealousy and New Orleans is just one of those places famous for it .
You're a freaking idiot. LF is adored by NOLA, just like TM7, Marshall Faulk, and OBJ are.

Then why are you?
I've seen Leonard playing wide in 5 receiver sets an awful lot in HS. Very good hands that Aug utilized quite a bit.

Fournette is going to be one of two things in the NFL:
A massive bust that everyone forgets about
Or injury prone and plagued with some good games here and there when he's healthy
I doubt he is a top 5 elite caliber NFL back.

Having LF on the Saints team does help the defense. The Saints defense will not have to play against him if he is on their team. This automatically helps the defense.
Hopefully Carolina does NOT get him. That would not be good for the Saints defense.

On Wednesday, at LSU's pro day in Baton Rouge, Fournette (6-foot-0 3/8, 228) arrived in much better shape, down 12 pounds from what he weighed in Indianapolis five weeks ago. He stood on all of his numbers from the combine, but went through what was described to me as an "exceptional" workout. He caught the ball extremely well, showing teams he can be an every-down back in the NFL and solidifying his status as the top runner in a deep running back draft.

He could also help in terms of ball control & dominating time of possession. There is more than one way to skin a cat. Opposing offenses can't score if their opportunities possession wise are severely limited. It's a factor no one seems to think about in this equation.

It's funny you mentioned Le'Veon Bell as a do it all back & while discounting Fournette because of the type of offense Fournette played in at LSU. Do you even realize Bell played in a very similar down hill running scheme at Michigan State where he wasn't asked to catch many passes either? Secondly, do you even know that Bell lost weight after his rookie season to transition to being an every down back in Pittsburgh? I wonder how Bell ever made it to become current poster child of the every down NFL back since the Steelers never saw him do it in East Lansing?
quote:
When Le'Veon Bell was drafted in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft, experts and media declared him as the big back the Pittsburgh Steelers have been desiring since Jerome Bettis retired. However, Bell might not be as big as he was when he came out of college. In fact, the man is trimming down.
In Bell's rookie season, his listed weight was 244 pounds. Pretty heavy for a running back that is known for hurdling opponents
quote:
Bell declared that his current weight is down to around 225 pounds, give or take. That would be the lightest he has been since before his freshman year at Michigan State. Bell talked about not only making himself faster, but adding an element of explosiveness that he felt his game was missing in 2013.
"Turning an 8 yard gain into a 70 yard gain."
Although Bell admitted that him losing weight was on his own accord, the Pittsburgh Steelers organization has been happy with his conditioning when he reported to camp.
Bell focused on his footwork and conditioning in the offseason and claimed to be in the best shape of his life as he heads into his second training camp of his young career.

Le'Veon Bell MSU Highlights
Now tell me how many receptions do you see as part of that highlight reel? How many I formation runs with a fullback leading the way are there?
After showing to be a really good pass catching back his freshmen year at LSU, Spencer Ware unexpectedly bulked up his sophomore year to presumably be more of a down hill runner. That added bulk took away a good bit of his lateral agility. Since being picked up by the Chiefs (Seattle drafted Ware), Ware slimmed back down to become the every down back he showed his freshmen year. Ware wasn't thrown to enough out of the backfield at LSU either but he hasn't prevented him from being a solid pass catching back in the NFL.

I'm amazed at how many people try to discount the abilities of an incredible talent such as Leonard Fournette.....
Hell not many WR's at LSU had superior stats in the passing game either, but LSU continues to recruit them and the NFL continues to draft them!

Pittsburg Steelers offense comes to mind....spread 70% of their offensive plays. Bell killing them in space.
Leonard in space will look like MVP, HOF in no time.

How do we even know what Fournette is?
He hasn't played a down in the NFL. You're basically saying he'll be better than adrian Peterson, who is one of the greatest ever at the position. Do you not realize how ridiculous that is? Fournette could be great, but we have no idea. Saying he'll be better than AP is such an LSU homer statement.

I do believe Fournette is the best RB in the draft, but that doesn't mean he's the best for for this offense, nor does it mean that he'll be Adrian Peterson like some people on here are saying

I remember the same things being said about Peterson when he was preparing for the draft & the Jim Brown comparisons were being made.
quote:
“Raw talent alone, Peterson is one of the top two players in this entire draft. if he can be more disciplined as a runner – choices and ball protection – he as the type of rare power-speed-balance combos shared among the all-time great backs of the Brown-Dickerson-Campbell lineage.”

Gil Brandt is the GOAT of NFL scouting. I will take his opinion over anyone else's.
quote:
Fournette "would be the first guy picked in the (NFL) draft if you just say, 'Who is the best player?'" NFL Media senior analyst Gil Brandt told The New York Times. "... He's ready to play."
As Brandt noted for The Times, being the best player doesn't necessarily mean being drafted first because some positions are valued more highly than others. And few positions are valued less than running backs in the NFL, because their careers tend to be short, among other reasons. Still, Brandt compared Fournette to two of the most dominant rushers of their times: Adrian Peterson and Herschel Walker. NFL Media analyst Lance Zierlein saw something of Peterson in Fournette's performance on Saturday, as well. Of course, as a true sophomore, Fournette won't even be draft-eligible until 2017. NFL draft rules require that prospects be three years removed from high school, a rule Brandt supports.
