Coach Maineri is not the problem. Baseball is not a sport where you win every game, even if you have a top level team. Baseball teams have ebbs and flows. It is important to peak at the right time. We have better competition than in the past.

Ever since Coach Miles was fired, our fan base has a segment with "fire the coach" and "blame the coach" fever - even when the coach (in this case Coach Maineri) has a history of success.

I think our team is fine. But, if you assume it is not, every great team has down years. The trick is retaining the coach who can build the team back up.

I could see the arguments for Coach Jones' dismissal. There are zero valid and bona fide arguments for Coach Maineri's discharge.

Mainieri wasn't to blame for yesterday. You put your closer in with a 3 run lead you expect to win. That stands even if he's only filling in. Gilbert is more than capable of closing get a game.

The bats are just dead cold right now.

It's called fan fatigue. Miles had it, Jones had it & PM has it. Very few coaches can overcome it once it sets in. PM doesn't have the charisma or "creativity" to overcome it.
Ironically, even though fan fatigue wasn't an issue at the time, Les Miles of the "Lesticles" era should be the blueprint for how to overcome fan fatigue.

didn't see CPM swing @ any pitches nor have I seen him throw any pitches this year...
so blaming him is like blaming the tooth fairy for your teeth falling out...

In every sport, it is important to peak at the right time..

Basketball - yep
Football - yep
Swimming - yep
Track - yep
Gymnastics - yep
Running - yep
Cycling - yep
And on and on

I mean this argument...... Really???

HE IS THE PROBLEM. He will NEVER EVER win another championship. Hell he can barely even get there anymore and sure as hell can't win any games there anymore.

The standard at LSU should based solely be based on performances in the Super regional and CWS. PERIOD. We have every single thing in the world going for us and FAR more than any other program in the WORLD. Why can't you get this through your head???

Smoke Laval was FIRED for winning 2 SEC Championships, and 2 CWS appearances in 5 years. Why is it different now with this Trash we have as head coach?

A hair above .500 in SEC play is unacceptable. No matter how you slice it, CPM has been underwhelming for the last few years.

I am so tired of seeing this from the people who do nothing but sit on this website all day and just got interested in baseball because they're obsessed with defending any current LSU coach

The truth about the program right now is that it's still flying high off of its (relatively, in the sports world) recent historic run under Skip and has a great deal of prestige to potential recruits. We have the biggest college baseball fanbase in the country and great facilities, among other things. That being said, we sign a lot of quality recruits every year, and every year we have a mass exodus of talent. This is a Mainieri issue IMO from everything I've heard from the many people I've talked to over the years who are close to the program.

We have an elite level of talent and resources, a mediocre level of coaching, and a below average level of depth ESPECIALLY for a program as prestigious as LSU, and it's been like that for a while under Mainieri for obvious reasons. This averages out to good but not great results and a total breakdown in the postseason where depth is paramount. When he has guys like Mac Marhsall, Latz, and Godfrey all transferring out in the same class, that's a sign that he isn't a players' coach even if you don't know anything about him behind the scenes. It's true that you don't win all games in baseball, but a shitty team doesn't usually lose all of them either. Mainieri teams have specialized in beating up on crappy opponents and they can't get it done against good ones (televised record of 3-10, untelevised record of 16-2, put 2 and 2 together there) and it's old to a lot of fans who understand what they're looking at. Granted, we always have the talent to possibly go on a run, but Mainieri seems to be too in his guys' heads year in and year out to let that happen consistently and our players just don't play with confidence or swagger.

We can, and should, do better than Mainieri. A fricking monkey could've won the national championship in 2009 with the insane level of talent on that team, it's no different than what Miles did in 2011 with a team stacked full of future NFL all-stars. LSU baseball has an underachieving and depth issue lately, compounded by Mainieri's poor hiring of assistants and poor in-game decisions. I'm hoping that we move on in a few years from his boring arse brand of baseball so I can enjoy going to the games again.

Maybe we need a real bonafide hitting coach--certainly there was interest after Andy left.
How could PM be so simpelton. Did he think that these kids could be on cruise-control.
The second half of this season will tell us volumes.

I am not a CPM fan and I do agree with this, however no matter the sport, the buck stops with head coach. Anyone who has not noticed the decline of the program over the last several years is not paying attention. Not sure what problem is, but any issues with a company or team stops with the head man or woman!!!

Most coaches won't as the odds are slim - more so in baseball than football.

The LSU program is not 1/2 as great as you think it is.

We have the by far best program in recent college baseball history. That's not debatable.

I am not a fan of CPM, but I am aware that not all of the Tiger's losses can be blamed on him...
We finally have a 3rd starter this year, with a decent developing 4th starter in the wings...this hasn't happened @ LSU in awhile...
losing CAC like we did didnt help the team chemistry nor the bats...hopefully , we can get another assistant to help ole Pawl out, he seems to need a jump start...

But it is and there's the rub: LSU baseball has championship level facilities, money, reputation, fan support etc. When it comes to "externals" everything about the program is exceptionally elite. The one area of the program not at that level? The team itself.
