Are they going forward with the planned on campus arena at McNeese?

LA has the worst collection of college basketball arenas of any state, and it shows in the recruiting and fanbases...

Meanwhile everyone's expanding and building their baseball fields...

The burton is awful. Too small. Seats were dirty. Saw a teams cheerleaders get held in the staging area until after their games tip had already taken place. They made fans stand outside in the pouring rain for 30 minutes on saturday.

Laffy has been the best host for the tourney. No doubt about it.

It does look too small. You get some big matchups between two schools that are close, and you aren't going to have room. I can remember several games where the cajundome was full and i think it seats 13k.

I went to Burton Coliseum and couldn't find my car after it was over, the whole building and surroundings looked the same from all sides...

lol, I mean, there are roads on two sides and livestock halls on the other two. FWIW, McNeese is building a new (smaller) basketball arena by their football field, so Burton is pretty much done for basketball.

Yes. Let me see if I have pics....

No pics worth a damn on my computer. I'll get some more this afternoon.

The most logical place is the PMAC. The state championships should be held at the flagship school. Period. End of discussion. Lafayette was ok. Everywhere else is a dump and no one goes to it. Plus a ton of the schools come from BR or NO

Thank you. LSU should've never allowed it to leave.

My dad was on the LHSAA Exec Committee when it was in the PMAC. so I got to go to a lot of game between 87 and when it left. I got to see a lot of great great players from LA. A lot of future NBA players. There was something really cool as a kid getting to go to LSU and run freely on the court and shoot during the day and watch games from courtside seats.

I still think the Cajundome is a better venue all things considered.

It now seats 10,800, 8,900 for Basketball. If you go back and look at the pics I posted which are from a wider angle you can see how many seats are actually still folded in. This was for the RRAC tournament, not a lot of people expected as most of the conference are teams from out of state. It would be all the way opened up for the Marsh Madness tourneys. This makes it larger than Burton and larger than the Thomas Assembly Center where it was in Ruston and only about 2, 500 seats smaller than the Cajundome in its basketball configuration.

That's plenty enough. Its not like those tourneys sell out every night BUT, you're going to have better crowds there from equal sides of the state because of location. We know you South Louisiana folks don't care about the drive but 2 hours from Shreveport and Monroe is much better than 3 and 3 and a half to Lafayette. That's the difference between 4 hour turnaround trips and 6 and 6 and a half. Makes a lot of difference.

AND the LHSAA would rather take a full house, rather than a quarter empty one, as they should.

Either Alec or Lafayette. Both are easy to get to.

With 36 games, Not all of them will draw. Was at the main event Friday night with country day. Decent crowd. But come Saturday there were issues with Marion and Peabody. We had to remain in the staging area for far too long. We showed up at our assigned time. They had no where to put us. Full v. Quarter doesn't really matter as much as the pure numbers do. I disliked the burton for my previously stated reasons. Feel the best venue I have been at for the tourney is the cajun dome.

It needs to be moved back to Lafayette because that is where it was the most successful. The city embraced the event and it drew more people. The teams were treated like royalty and it was a great experience for the players and coaches. If you look at the attendance numbers, it's a no brainer.

And I've always loved that faux attachment to the Cajun Culture in Laffy as well. That city is no different than BR with all it's transplants. Ville Platte has more cajun culture in the pinky toe of the mailman than Lafayette does.
