When it reaches the point that you need to be under medical supervision to safely withdrawal off a drug it's no longer just a weak mind.

If this is the case, then about 80% of the people on this board have weak minds. All that is talked about is what and how much they are drinking. It's all fun and games until they find they cannot stop. . .
That's how it all starts.

the AMA, CDC, SAMHSA, NIDA, NIH, WHO and APA all disagree with you.
as does your insurance company, which last i checked doesn't cover character issues or weak-minded behavior.

it was such a leap of faith i can't tell you. dropping her off in AZ knowing NO ONE, going on the recommendation of a prior user/friend of my daughter. But there is only one way the people around her knew her and that was an obstacle she did not need.

well i don't participate in those discussions
i agree it turns to a physical addiction. but its not a disease.

You better hope and pray that your life is never affected by addiction. It is a disease that is physical, mental, and spiritual. If you don't believe that, I hope for your sake that you never come to believe it.
I can believe something is terrible without calling it a disease. I've seen what alcohol/drugs/gambling has done to families, but after having multiple family members fight and die from cancer, strokes, and other horrible diseases it's tough for me to put it in the same category. We shouldn't be considering it a crime, but helping those affected by it.

Correct, but it's based on an inherent illness.

I watched a few intervention and never really thought about but going home is a big trigger.
I know I have had some shitty post, but I was being honest. You made a hard fast decesion that was right.
Did she fight it?

I have 15-20 suboxone patients. They are medical professionals, lawyers, seafood industry, accountants, hairdressers, fast food workers, construction baws, college students, et cetera.
They are good people. Their old friends and physicians not so much.

Your body has no desire or dependency for the chemical until you actively introduce your body to it. It may become dependent for said chemical throughout multiple uses, but prior to a person ingesting that "decision" for the first time, there is no addiction.
It is a choice to introduce your body to a foreign substance, thus creating the opportunity for an addiction to occur.

actually she did not, at first. she was not living at home and after almost ODing came to us for help again. she did call a few weeks after we left her saying "Daddy this is not the place you think it is, terrible things are going on". But she also told me in a flash of honest: Daddy, i'm a drug addict. Please don't believe a word i say. so we held on. she eventually worked for the center and then after 2 1/2 years began hiking and moved near the Tetons. we visited her in AZ and Wy and now she is moving to CO. better to visit her healthy than have her home in a more dangerous place.

Lots of diseases are brought about by poor choices.
Doesn't make them less of a disease.
You are dumb
