Do you have reddish colored hair? Red heads have a gene that make them harder to knock out. I was awake during a major surgery where they had to cut a huge kidney stone out of my kidney. i could feel it but was paralyzed, had my eyes taped shut and they had the breathing tube thing in my throat so I couldn't scream. It was hurting so bad as they sliced into me.

Finally the noticed my vital signs were going crazy and freaked out and screamed out to give me more and put me under. It all goes back to the redhead gene for me.

Oddly I am also immune to the effects of stuff like fentanyl, cocaine, and crap like that. One or two pain pills do nothing for me. I don't get the big deal about why people are into pain pills. They dont give me a buzz at all but they do nauseate me.

I was awake for wisdom teeth removal as well as a lymph node removal. Didn't bother me. When I break my foot again, I would opt to be wake and watch it if I can,

I've woken up in each of my last 2 surgeries on my hand. Remember seeing a light the last time. Both times the doctor asked me if I remembered waking up. My mom's good friend was one of the nurses assisting in my surgery and told my mom right after I woke up twice n it freaked her out Cuz I turned my head abruptly n stared at her.

I had cataract surgery while awake. No sweat.

Now, I had surgery identical to this, but they knocked me out.

I do actually. That's interesting. Never knew that.

I woke up during the middle of my meniscus surgery. Dr said he only liked about 10 more min if I wanted to stay awake for it. Then he laughed and said if it got too painful just say the word and they would knock me back out. I think I lasted 3-4 min and said knock me out.

Like you said, I could feel a lot of tugging then it got painful.

Pulling and poking on skin that you can't feel is a very odd feeling

Not a fan. When they removed my central port it was done with localized anesthesia. She didn't wait long enough for it to set in and I could feel the cut. Told her "whoa, whoa, whoa!" It was painful. She just injected more and waited 5 minutes and went back to work. All of the tugging gave me a sick feeling.

Had a small cyst removed from my leg years ago and watched the whole thing in the mirror. It was pretty cool.
Fell on blacktop in middle school, got about 20 or so stitches in my knee, watched that too. Doc had to actually enlarge the wound in order to stitch it properly, so when he was finished there were a bunch of surgical sponges and blood on the floor in the ER.
I know, CSB.

Having LASIK while wide awake and talking LSU FB with the doc is wild.

Especially when you see him fold that flap out of the way and then back in place.

I had planned to stay awake during a surgery for my thumb, but i couldnt keep my shite together-something about the meds they did give me made me start sobbing like an 8 year old girl. I wasnt scared or sad or anything going in-the whole deal was really weird. Doc decided real quick like he wasnt listening to me for that 30 minutes. Told the assistant to put me out.

Also-the nerve block they gave me through my armpit was the most painful thing i've ever felt in my life-

Had carpal tunnel surgery in February, wide awake. Short procedure, but could feel the pressure of being cut and manipulated. Eventually she leaned in and said "I'm going to give you something" cuz I started squirming. Surgeon said he was done, and I don't think she gave it to me. They sent me home an hour late with 30 percocets, and all was well!

I watched as the Dr. sliced both of my balls at my vasectomy....

big mistake, needless to say.

Oh well, the hot nurse handling my dick and putting a cold rag on my head made me feel much better.

It's not that bad. When my son was born, we required an emergecy c-section.

It was a fascinating experience to be awake while a physician sliced open my numbed abdomen and pulled out a screaming, bloody, little person.

Yeah, that was a big needle

The doc telling me I was good to drop my arm was still one of the strangest feelings I've ever had. It was like my arm weighed a ton

Holy shite that's rough. I was awake enough to feel surgery on a nerve in my shoulder. They had to go in and straighten a pinched nerve orthoscpically. Strangely, the actual holes hurt way more than anything involving the nerve. I couldn't feel it 100% but I could feel it enough to know I was halfway asleep but still aware
