The Dems ran out the typical gays, African Americans, abortion lovers to plead against Gorsuch.

It's the same game over and over.

I didn't get a "dumb as hell" vibe from her like I do some politicians. She was just condescending, snarky, and generally annoying as hell

OK, so the Democrats will filibuster. I hope McConnell at least tries for 60 votes for cloture. If he gets it fine and done.

If not he'll need to decide to use the nuclear option for the Supreme Court. In 2013 the Democrats used that for lower court nominations because so many federal judgeships were open the federal courts had become clogged.

I suspect he'll use that option and get the judge confirmed.

And with that, minorities in the Senate will no longer have a say. That will end any reason to compromise in that body, just as there isn't in the House.

Is that good for America?

Why couldn't Democrats appointment judges that can be approved without the nuclear option?

So why is it Gorsuch's vote is "that" issue that ended any reason to compromise and not Democrats using this bullshite maneuver to appoint far left wing judges to the bench?

Because Trump is literally Hitler?

Gorsuch was incredible in the hearings.

No, the tactics of Kennedy, Biden, Schumer et al over the years have not been good for America. The politics of personal destruction have finally poisoned the well to the degree that the general response to nearly all appointments is "go f*ck yourself". Well, except for Sotomayor and Karen of late.

Should R's just let the D's filibuster every SC pick for the next four years? No. Get it done

I can think of no good reason why this man should be denied confirmation to the Supreme Court

I'm really not sure when advice and consent turned into a super-majority approval process under Senate rules, but the "nuclear" option seems to me to be what the rule should have been all along.

Don't forget Dirty Harry Reed. He lied over and over on the floor of the Senate and was an obstructionist to any bill/amendment/ideas put forth by Republicans.
The Nuclear option should be referred to as the REED option.

Scum!

I would think the majority should use the NO because no way the Dems are going to let ANY of Trump's nominees in. I don't care what they say about Gorsuch's ideology not being mainstream. They will not consider any but Left Wing nominees.
Might as well get this over with now. The dumbass Dems should use this when a Leftist Judge is replaced. I hope the majority doesn't fold on this. Screw the Dems; they brought this on.

procedures

need 60

have low 50's.

McConnell is well aware that the Dems just need to flip 3 seats to own the Senate in 2018. Majority rule works both ways.

and now, Trump needs moderate Dems to pass some yet to be figured out health care bill.

a lot of you guys used to say that if nothing is done in Washington its a good thing.
stone wall Merrick for a year. you get feet dragging back.

The rules will be changed to allow for a simple majority confirmation of supreme court justices and Gorsuch will be on the court. If the Democrats had controlled the Senate by one vote last year, they would have changed the rule to get Garland on the bench before the Presidential election. I don't think it mattered too much as they thought Hillary would win and either Garland would get his seat or Hillary could have always withdrawn it and nominated Bill or some Native American professor from Harvard.

"Far left wing", really? Like Garland? He was about as conservative, especially in matters related to businesses, as Kennedy or even Roberts.

I suspect any judge who didn't attend Liberty is too left wing for you.
