From the Clemson message board (no confirmation on the accuracy of this info):
Is the purported "other deal" with LSU, VCU, or some mystery program (perhaps Oklahoma St.)?
Personally, I think the "LSU talking to Crean" info was leaked by LSU in an effort to leverage Wade
quote:
We heard yesterday that there was a big meeting of "the suits" and that a decision had been made regarding Brownell. At the time, I was told that a buyout had been negotiated, and that Brad was out the door. Then we all started hearing the rumors last night that Clemson was interested in Will Wade....
I was told that Wade used Clemson as leverage for another deal. That Wade has no interest in returning to Clemson, and views this job as a mid-major in a big conference with zero upside. He wants to follow in Shaka's footsteps and get a "big" job.
Once that was known, things changed in the proverbial landscape and Brad was retained.
Keep in mind, this isn't confirmed, but it's things I have heard from both sides. Seems to make sense.

F. King and Joe don't play that. Wade? Take a hike!

Wade makes more now than Underwood did at OSU.
Why are people getting outraged at assumptions that may not even be true?
How could LSU possibly be dragging their feet when Wade was interviewed less than 24 hours ago?

if Clemson is a mid-major in a big conference with zero upside, what's LSU?

A mid-major in a big conference with some upside.
1. Only major program in the state. If we got 4/6 recruits in Louisiana each year, we'd be an annual tourny team.
2. Much, MUCH better basketball history (even a better recent history) than Clemson

How come other teams just go get their guy and the first you hear is here is their new coach. With Alleva it's maybe this guy, oh we interviewed that guy, I am the search, I'm moving on from that coach who fell through, here is our coach identified by a search committee.
Ugh!
Ugh!

Local beat writer (that nobody ever heard of) makes a statement not backed up by a credible source and the Rant goes crazy.
Damn that is funny stuff.

Because you're not on their message boards. It really does happen in most high profile coaching searches.
And btw, there were national rumors for DAYS about Mizzou's HC search.

True. But I think the question comes from the perspective of the fact that regardless of the speculation leading up to it, Mizzou had Martin lock in the day after Cal's season ended. Same for NC St. and Illinois with their guys. Lorenzo Romar was fired at Washington on 3/15. 4 days later they had a new coach.
Presumably all of LSU's targets are done with their seasons, yet still no HC here. Right or wrong, it makes it look like those other schools had a plan then executed it, while LSU is still trying to figure out what they want to do

Miserable? I'm the one laughing at all of the hysteria.
If Alleva makes a hire in the next few days and a bigger name shows up at the end of tournament, these same Rantards will be screaming because moved too fast.
You don't see the humor in that?

That's a silly assumption. If Joe has a short list, prequalified by reaching via third parties, one could assume he is going through his lists as target coaches seasons end.
It's also bs that a candidate who is highly interested would pull his name because of LSU dragging it's feet. Anyone who has dealt with executive or coaching searches knows that both parties are going to look at all offers.
If Wade withdrew it wasn't because of dragging feet.
Plus, we all know beat writers are always 100% accurate.
You guys make it sound like Alleva is a bumpkin. He's not. It just fits your narrative.

This. This. All of this.
If it was just this coaching search, then nobody would question Alleva. But it's everything he touches. Hiring a basketball coach, firing the football coach, "searching" for a football coach, dealing with Florida during the hurricane, all the way to hiring a softball coach. How can anyone have faith in anything he does.

Sorry I can't list off every beat writer for every college in the nation.

Please send me a link to an article written by a beat writer about a coaching search where he reveals who his source is.
And if you DO find such an article, I can guarantee the guy isn't in the journalism business anymore.

If you are going to rip the guy, which I am not against, at least get your facts straight.

It just means they will never beat duke and nc...as in almost never. So what's the upside?
LSU can easily beat Kentucky every few times.

It's a done deal guys; Wiki already has LSU listed in his career head coaching resume.

Who would add that to Wikipedia if it wasn't true?
