Who is putting Kansas over UCLA?
I think they are both solid Tier 1.

And what has Kansas done in the past 30 years over UCLA to make up the HUGE disparity of National Titles 11-3 and Final Fours?
You make a fair point, but I think KU's blue blood status is tied strongly with their connection to Naismith. Not to mention they've been a consistent winner since the early days of the sport.

You could almost say the same about UConn and Calhoun.
They were a moderately successful regional program before, but nothing close to what they became during his era. And Calhoun was there over a decade before UConn reached their first Final Four, long after their original Big East rivals had already broken through.
Obviously Ollie won one, but he hasn't sustained the same level of success, which makes Calhoun's run even more impressive.
yeah but uconn has 4 titles to Florida's 2. also, you can make the argument that 95% of Florida's success can be attributed to one recruiting class.
uconn also gets further benefit of the doubt because they played in the dominant basketball conference

Michigan St. has 9 Final Four appearances. I think they belong

Uconn also has titles from two coaches. However, it's hard to stay blue blood in a mid major conference.

The guy who had Indiana and UCLA basically on even footing and a notch below Kansas and UNC and Kentucky and Duke.

agree. for the time being, uconn is 100% tier 2, but they need to get the frick out of the AAC before they fade into obscurity like unlv.

UNLV- good one. Should be a cautionary tale for Uconn.

I missed that. Agree, it's BS

It's a modern day list. If you aren't going to win the NC, should at least make the tournament every year to stay in the top tier.

actually, it's kind of funny nobody is debating Arizona. I personally consider them tier 2 because they have been good to great my entire life, but they only have one title and a handful of final fours.
I could easily see how some people would put Arizona tier 3, and I wouldn't argue against it. uconn and Michigan st are clearly stronger all time programs.

I brought up the point that what makes Arizona so much more a tier 2 than Illinois?
And the answer was 1 National Title.
Illinois has been to 5 Final Fours
Arizona has been to 4 Final Fours
Illinois has more all-time wins and a higher win %.

Certainly, I'm not saying UConn and Florida are equals, but I can see why someone wouldn't consider UConn a blue blood. They don't have the same history of success across different eras like the other programs considered to be blue bloods. Even Duke had reached multiple Final Fours before Coach K.
Of course, you can't punish them for being elite for "only" two decades. You could make an argument for them either way.

I can't believe Arizona has only 1 more final 4 than LSU. UNREAL.
Where do the Purdue's, GTs, NC States, Notre Dames fall historically? I'm not sure of their success before the 80s. Have seemed to be solid most of my life until recently with GT and state.
Eta: Throw UVA in also, Maryland??

Also, I'm surprised Cincinnati hasn't come up yet.
2 NCs and 6 Final Fours. Granted, most of that success happened a long time ago, but they have remained a very good program. If we're considering the total history of the sport, do they not belong in Tier 2?

Arizona is always stocked with talent and they don't flame out in the first round usually so it's not memorable when they lose.

I remember Cincinnati for one thing. Coming in hyped and busting my bracket more often than not

Wanted to make a top 10 but don't think there's a clear-cut option for #10.

If Indiana and Kansas are in, then Louisville should be Tier 1 as well. 33 years between their first and last title, as many titles as Kansas and a higher winning percentage than Indiana.
