Is this the "all-in" year?

With everything happening, does anyone else think we're basically going all-in on this season (and maybeeeeee next, depending on what happens), and then more than likely saying goodbye to Drew and/or Payton?
I love Drew as much as the next person, and still think he can perform at a high level, for what it's worth. Still unsure about Payton, but I think he would stay and continue to live as Emperor of NOLA if he had the choice.

I think we're going all in because we have the space to make these moves, and because if we don't win this year, then Drew and Sean are gone.
So winning this year gives us a better chance of keeping Drew

I basically agree with your premise. Seems like we're making all the moves of a "last hurrah" for this era

This year they need to get into the playoffs at least for there to be a future with Payton and Brees beyond this year. If they at least make the playoffs then you can probably at most reasonably expect 2 additional years out of Brees before he simply becomes too old.
Then again with possibly weak ownership in an aging Benson who knows how Payton is held accountable.

Yes, this is the off season we've been planning for.

Yes and it's amplified by having so much cap space.
I also have a theory in that I think this is a test year for Brees. If they can make a run at it, win a playoff game, then I think he sticks around. But, I think after all this if we still have a .500 or less season he tests the FA waters.

It's nice to know all of the informed, reasonable fans are on the same page about this. Almost takes a lot of the stress and expectations off. It's sort of, "well, we did all we could, and it is what it is" at this point

Yes. If we don't make the playoffs this year, I am afraid this may be the end.

We've been all in for the last three years. shite just hasn't worked out.

We really haven't been though. We've been hampered by the most dead money in the league combined with a 2014 draft that netted us 0 contributors to this now 2017 team. Even though I'm pretty sure we still had the most the Graham and Galette money finally fell off.

I don't see that at all, what I see is they finally have the money, and the opportunity, to bring in desperately needed talent to rebuild the team to help drew take us back deep into the playoffs. I don't see anything beyond taking care of business and doing some smart deals on some really good players, which has been very rare around here in the past few years.
I haven't seen then reach once at anything so far so your premis of an "all-in" just has no basis other then the "feel" of "finally, thank God they are doing something about fixing it" and we all feel like that.
if they truly were as you say "all-in" then they wouldn't have hesitated to overpay to get hightower because that would have been "all-in win now at any cost move"

How does this play into being all in? You think they purposely had a shitty draft in 2014 because they weren't all in? We haven't even drafted yet.

Tell me what free agent we didn't get due to dead money? We payed a shite ton for Byrd, Spiller, Fleener
Dude we've been "all in". We've just made some bad decisions.

I guess it depends on your view of what "all-in" means
to me, "all-in" means a total "at any cost" sell out of all resources and assets holding nothing back and reaching for things you shouldn't reach for if you were being a smart team making smart decisions. putting everything you have into one season with nothing at all left for next year

The point was more that our drafting fell of a cliff. We missed on most of our big FA signings in 2014 and 2015. This wasn't a team that was managing or playing like everyone's jobs depended on it. We were cute in thinking our old tricks would get us by and they clearly didn't.

And how have those worked out? On top of those being our big ticket items not letting us sign much other defensive help, they're all busts.
Byrd had known injury history.
Spiller was more of the same.
Fleener's been a dud as well.

I agree I definitely believe that this will be the decisive season. It appears as though the front office is at least attempting to change their approach. There has been a lot of criticism of the organization over the past few years, but the FO and CSP had earned that criticism.
This has been the first offseason in a while that I have been able to look at and say that I'm pretty excited. There had been one or two move over the past two years that I believed in.....but it's like they wouldn't "go all the way" with an approach. This offseason it's like the switch was flipped. It may not garner the results that we want......but at least it isn't half measures anymore.

it was already a do or die year before he fired the majority of the crossfit mafia. This will either continue the best stretch of saints football ever, or it will all end
Posted on 3/16/17 at 7:02 pm to The Midnight Rider
I think the Saints are all in the next 4 years

tbh i was afraid they would overspend and go all in, but i think the moves thus far have been made with good balance.
what exactly do you think we are going all in on?
