I believe this is a good job that could be a great job. You have tradition, talent close by, solid but not too hard of a conference, etc.

Spend the money!

It's not a matter of saved money from the Coach O deal, LSU has the money to pay for a top notch MBB coach AND a top notch FF coach.

The real question is "Does the athletic administration at LSU value a top notch MBB program?"

It hard to say LSU should or could be a national contender every season because the SEC as a whole is not a very strong MBB conference, but there is no reason LSU couldn't or shouldn't be challenging Florida and Kentucky in the SEC. This next MBB HC hire will tell you if they desire a quality MBB program or if they're just content to sell their few thousand season tickets per year and hope they can catch lightning in a bottle one year.

" and a couple grad assist"

If you haven't noticed, really good coaches act as a coordinator as well. Do you think Nick doesn't have a lot to do with the Bama D or Jimbo have a lot to do with the Florida State offense?

We paid over 3 million a year for coach with absolutely no leverage. Do you really think coach O would have said no to 2 million?
And the buy out? Absolutely ridiculous for a coach of his resume.

While I am praying every night for it to work out, I can only shake my head over the direction of LSU Athletics.

bullshite. Coaches salaries are determined by what they have already accomplished. Bama isnt gonna automatically pay Saban's successor 7 millionaire year just because it's Bama.

Seems like you are butt hurt because O is the coach and a cheap Charlie.

Yeah wanting lsu to hire the most qualified coach means I'm butt hurt.
quote:

Oh, and laugh all you want, $3-3.5M was the market rate LSU

The is no market to pay 3.5 million for a 55 year old career position coach that has never ran a successful offense, defense or program.

Once again, you don't pay 60000$ for a Honda accord just because you bought is at a Mercedes dealership.

and O convinced them he was the man

Yeah we all know how great Alleva is at picking coaches.
quote:

Kudos to him for getting his dream job at a hell of a pay day.

Ed Orgeron has had 3 different dream jobs. I guess you just forgot that he used to take unprovoked shots at lsu.
quote:

Don't you think that coonass will work his tail off to prove guys like you wrong and when he wins a title and gets $6-7M per year,

Alleva would be a fricking moron to give a 7 million a year contract to someone that is so dependant on his coordinators.

guess you will have a problem with that too

Save money on a sport that makes money to spend on a sport that loses it. Nice strategy.

You are an idiot...it loses money because it's a terrible product. We draw 10k for gymnastics....bb should be a properly run program.

shite. You're telling me we're going to have to hire a fantasy football coach too? Alleva needs to be on the phone with jay glazer right now. Or at least have a back up plan for Ron jaworski if he falls through. Maybe put a call in to Ryan Clark because he has ties to the area. Alleva is gonna frick it up either way.

Less than what? LSU is paying him about $2.5 million more than any other school was offering him.

Paid him about 2.5M$ less than Herman would have cost. He has two very good coordinators and got a very good recruiting coordinator. What is the knock on the guy? His record at Ole Miss? Nobody has proven capable of winning there since they fired Cutcliffe!

We don't need that fricking traitor who did what he said he'd never do again - coach in the NFL. He got what was coing to him in the NFL. This guy ought to be banned coming near Louisiana. Nick's a dick.

That's because there was actually a market for Herman. He is good so other people wanted to hire him. Orgeron didn't turn down higher paying jobs to take this one as the other poster implied. He had no other options near this level.

Actually he is the only one that proved to be incapable of winning anything. The issue wasn't that he didn't produce championship level results at Ole Miss. Everyone understands they are Ole Miss for a reason. The issue was that he is literally the worst coach they've had in a generation, if not longer.

There's more to it than hard work. I can work my arse off from now until the day I die but I'm not hitting home runs like Mickey Mantle.

When did he ever say this? He had never been a nfl hc and his stint as a nfl dc was very successful. He had the Cleveland Browns as the #1 defense in the nfl.

If his team's medical dept. hadn't whiffed on Brees,he would still be in the nfl and Les Miles would be the most beloved lsu coach ever.
