What about 5000 people?

All 5,000 reported abuse?
I think the agents ability to seize and search without a warrant is BS. That doesn't mean I buy the just walking along and Bam attacked story.

No, they don't.
What are they going to do? Hold me indefinitely until I give them my password?
If you saw the story as it played on NBC Nightly News yesterday you would know the answer is they WILL arrest you, imprison indefinitely, and then go after everything and everyone you ever knew.
They interviewed a fat, hideous, ACLU wench during the story. She confirms a 150 year USSC history of US Citizens and border agents vs Constitution and admits citizens lose every single time.
Besides, if they seize your ID's you ain't leaving the border area in either direction except in chains since you have no proof of citizenship anywhere on the planet at that point.

quote:Yep.
We could wrangle everyone up and put them in camps and it would surely catch some criminals. What's the harm? Quite a slippery slope you're trying to go out on.
Or, should cops be allowed to stop you on the streets at any time for any or no reason at all to look at your phone? frankly if this procedure catches criminals whats the harm?
How about your home, shouldn't law enforcement be allowed to come into anyone's home for any or no reason at all to search their homes? frankly if this procedure catches criminals whats the harm?

There are other times where it's doing no good and only harm to you. This would be one of those times.

They should have. Handing over your privacy at the threat of handcuffs is abuse.

I'd test those waters.

Easy way to deal with this, backup to cloud before you go to the airport or border. Factory wipe. Restore once you make it through.

Posted my info on tigerdropping doesn't equal the border agents looking at my texts.

Once they realize what's going on, what's to keep them from demanding access to those accounts? They could argue that the information belongs to you and by you entering the country you're essentially bringing it with you?
Before you laugh too much there have been reported instances of customs demanding Facebook access to let people in. How is that different?

My way takes pretty much no effort and you still give them the phone. There is nothing on the phone for them to search.

Sure it does, in fact you made their life easier by not visiting the border. Now they don't need a warrant at all.
What do you have to lose? It's not like you're hiding something right?
How do we know you're not a criminal?

Well then I would show my phone. Which has nothing on it really. I'm even too lazy to save contacts. Makes it fun when you get a call. Could be anyone.

What account? It's a used phone I bought for a family member and we haven't set up an account.

What about searching your home, any home they want at any time? Should they have that authority?

Carry a burner phone across the border and the problem is solved.
