What a lot of people call going with a gut feeling or a hunch is often merely the unconscious application of data and the results of the application of that data.
Like wind direction to determine the starting lineup?

i guess this thread is an example of 1 being stolen...

thought this was about CPM's gut feeling on using Romero?

guess you might want to edit the title to include CPM's pitching decisions & the improbable screw- ups he made...

But you are. You are playing "what if" from the perspective of our outlook on Saturday as if you knew the TT game would be close and we could have used Gilbert. Everything I'm saying is based on my belief that a 4-0 lead vs a top 25 team with 2 innings left is a close enough and important enough game (having already lost game 1) that you use a pitcher like Gilbert to secure that win. If we disagree there, then everything else is moot.

No, I asked the question when Gilbert entered the game v Baylor. It was not a what if, and it's not based on hindsight. It's a good question and the same question Dunn and Mainieri will ask themselves.

And a 4 run lead v a top 25 team like Baylor is no different than a four run league in the SEC because every team with maybe a couple of exceptions is top 25 caliber. We will have those type decisions all year long and we will see how the answer is in a month, or two.

BTW, prior to this weekend Baylor was not top 25, but I don't disagree with you; they are a top 25 caliber and a good opponent for sure.

This isn't worth starting a new thread over, but I've been able to track down some of the summer assignments for LSU players already:

Brennan Breaux Cape Cod Bourne Braves
Chris Reid Prospect Kokomo Jackrabbits
Beau Jordan Cape Cod Brewster
Zachary Hess Cape Cod Bourne Braves
Jake Slaughter Cape Cod Y-D Red Sox
Mason Templet Prospect Danville Dans
Nick Coomes Northwoods St Cloud Rox
Mason Doolittle Prospect Danville Dans

If we lost on Friday and are only winning by 4 with 2 innings left on Saturday, give me Gilbert every damn time he's available.

Filed under: Stats that are fun to compute but don't really mean shite.

Our regular season Pythagorean record projection after this weekend is now 47-9.

It's mathematical based on runs for and runs against. It does not account for the talent of the opponents or future opponents. At the end of the season it can help determine if a team over performed or under performed their runs for and runs against.

How does gut instinct fueled by observing the player's tendencies over a period of time in practice,(I'm confident that you have done that) followed by similar observations in game situations work for you?

It doesn't work for me.

Wouldn't that qualify as data?

I agree with Kim Jong.
Game performance is more important and useful data.
