I have a sneaking suspicion that the reason Trump isn't involving himself is that he wants the Rs to fail so he can swoop in and pitch single-payer.
It wouldn't surprise me. Though I think he'd rather let them fight it out, not get anything passed, while in the meantime he and Price not divert any attention or resources to ACA so that it also fails. Without advertising, enrollments drop dramatically, more carriers pull out of the marketplaces due to uncertainty, etc.
But I don't think Trump can get single payer through this Congress.

They would impeach him in a heart beat so fast your head would spin.
That or primary him so hard for 2020.
There's lots of diverse talk for ObamaCare repeal and replace but single payer is persona non grata in the GOP and political suicide for a republican and even a republican President.
It's like democrats supporting a balanced budget amendment and that democrat doesn't exist.
Trump may not be an orthodoxical conservative but he's not that liberal enough to go there.

Really? Is it that one sided?
Democrats are perfect huh?

its not an impeachable offense to talk up support for single payer. its up to congress.
Trump can talk. Congress gets to write the bills.
I do think the longer Congress frets without coming to grips with it, the more likely it is for trump to start talking about alternatives to doing nothing.
if we do get a single payer bill, the employers in the USA will shout for joy. No more subsidized plan at work. USA company becomes more competitive with other lands with single payer plans.

Ummm, who do you think would foot the bill?

The breitbart base already flipped out over Trump sending up trial balloons about going with the 2013 gang of 8 bill and trump backed the frick off of that.
Single payer has that same status as well.
If Vermont and Colorado don't want to do single payer, Trump will never do it.
Besides, Trade is something that has had bipartisan concern and has for decades.
Single payer is a partisan idea exclusively in the democrats sphere.

What I find striking is that the Republicans sent bills to Obama's desk that even they did not believe should be implemented...as evidenced by the fact that they did not simply pass THOSE bills when Trump was elected.
Clowns.
You will find many conservatives and Trump supporters who agree with this assessment

ACA so that it also fails
It's doing that on its own. It needs more money to survive. Higher taxes. Less choice. A progressive's dream.

Haven't they already promised to fight any repeal that doesn't have a full repeal of the Medicaid expansion? Republican governors in states that expanded Medicaid don't want to see that happen.
Freedom Caucus will get on board if Trump endorses the bill.
If Trump stays quiet, it will be very difficult for the House to even send it to the Senate. The RGA wants Medicaid expansion. Pence will make sure Trump echoes their concerns.
It seems Ryan's plan here is to introduce the package as is, let the Rules Committee work on it, get it to the Senate, then let the real changes take place once the Senate puts it through the Byrd Rule and rejects it.
This is purely a timing introduction. Ryan is trying to look competent.

True, but I also think there are enough people around him that would talk him out of it. Bannon, Sessions, Miller, etc. Plus, I think it'd be a non-starter in the House.
I do think many of his voters would get on board with single payer if they actually understood what it meant. He would lose the budget hawks and wealthy conservatives though.

Just leave the healthcare industry alone and let the free market work. Let those who can afford it buy it. Let companies offer cheap basic plans.
Let their be charity organizations to provide poor healthcare.
Do away with the law "hospitals can't turn down services" because providing care to those who can't pay for it means costs go up for those who can. Some people should just die. We are overpopulated anyways

They were proving a point that no matter what they did Obama would not sign anything that the republicans offered up. Thus proving HIM to be the clown.
Lol
The Republicans didn't want those bills to be passed. If they did, they would pursue the same bills under Trump. Your argument is weak.

Lets say a few people get in a huge accident on i-10. All are unconscious. What are we gonna do, dig around in their pockets for insurance cards before taking them to a hospital?
This kinda shite happens every day.

If they're already limiting the tax credits just based on CBO scores then there seems to be little hope of this turning out to be anything more than a sort of health-specific EITC.
It's hard for a bill to be revenue neutral when it doesn't include actual revenue. I'm anxious to see if they are willing to propose a plan that will blow up the deficit.
Posted on 3/6/17 at 2:50 pm to Haughton99
Any plan expanding coverage is going to expand the deficit if revenue isn't raised.
This is nothing new.
