6 up - 6 down with 6 strikeouts! Wish he could have stayed in a bit longer, but I understand we need to work the rotation to get some game time reps. Kid looked great though!

Our bullpen should be fine this year, don't listen to the doubters. They will come around with more game experience

I think Gilbert can be that 2-6IP guy depending on when needed, situation, etc. Incredible flexibility he provides the staff for spot start, mid-relief, finish a game, etc.
IF McKay can come back and give us something, it just provides more quality depth to the BP.
Looking good Tigers, keep charging!

Reading mustn't be your strong suit.

Gilbert will be in the pen as a bridge to Newman after that outing.
Hess will get a shot at Sunday role with Walker at midweek.
If Hess can win Sunday job that might get Walker in the mix in relief on weekend as well.
Midweek starter may go back to wholestaff at that point especially with the injury to Norman (the Shark) and ineffectiveness so far of Strall and Reynolds.

Seems like Gilbert, Peterson & Bain are becoming the go to reliable guys out of the pen right now. Then Newman of course to close things out. Curious to see if Hess can work himself into that role as well.
Norman was close, but damn sucks if he's really hurt.

I'd give Gilbert a chance to start Sundays

Unless Walker faulters against Tech Sunday, I really don't see that happening. Walker will more than likely be the Sunday starter when SEC play opens up in a couple weeks.

Mehh. IDK about that just yet, but we shall see!

He's more proven than Walker and has better stuff.

I'm just happy that, for the most part, they all look like they have improved over the off season. I see great potential in this team, and I'm excited to see where they end up at the end!

I'd start Walker against Baylor, put Poche up against TTU. TTU's pitching is LEGIT, even their #3. Baylor's pitching is nowhere close.

My personal opinion I want Walker to keep the Sunday spot and have Hess in the bullpen. I think being able to trot out Gilbert Peterson and Hess before Newman is a pretty good start to a bullpen.

Or just flip Gilbert and Walker's roles and you don't have to screw with Poche's rest.

Since we're talking pitching, I posted this earlier in a thread that didn't have much traffic, but here's a funny stat to chalk up to small sample size.
Jared Poche's Opponent Batting Average each time through the order, for the season:
1) .000
2) .000
3) .000
4) 1.000

This early in the season, outside of SEC play I'd just go with our normal rotation and not worry about match ups. No point in messing with Poche's routine at this point

You throw your best against the best, hence why I'm still throwing Poche against TTU. Rest doesn't matter for a 1 day difference for a guy who pitches literally once a week. We might really struggle to score some runs against TCU and TTU. Although I admit I have no clue who TCU is using for their ace. They have done 2 different guys the first 2 weeks, and neither was the big time freshman kid. All 3 of TTU's starting pitchers have been phenomenal. Baylor's pitching - well, if we cant score against them we have problems. Unless they save their ace for us.
