About a half an hour after being deported from the United States, a Mexican man jumped to his death off of a bridge, according to local reports Tuesday.

quote:

The man, 45-year-old Guadalupe Olivas Valencia, was found unconscious next to plastic bag containing his belongings, reported the BBC. He died soon after in the hospital from a heart attack and concussion sustained after hitting the ground. The apparent suicide took place by the El Chaparral border station that connects Tijuana with San Diego.

quote:

Valencia had been deported three times and was reportedly spotted by witnesses yelling that he did not want to return to Mexico. According to a friend who spoke with Agence France-Presse, Valencia appeared anxious about being sent to a city where "he knew nobody," reported the Independent. The British newspaper reported that documents found on Valencia's possession after his death revealed he was from the Mexican state of Sinaloa, in the country's Northwest.

quote:

Valencia's death comes amid a crackdown on undocumented immigration from President Donald Trump's administration. Some 11 million undocumented immigrants live in the U.S.

So Mexicans would rather die than live in their own country? Man that shithole is worse than I thought. Maybe the Mexican President should do something about that.

Maybe we should have sent him back across in Nogales?

Deported three times. Wonder if he ever had plans to become a citizen. My guess is no.

If only Canada was kind enough to take him this tragedy could have been averted.

Sad but it doesn't change my perspective relative to illegal immigration.

You know, I dislike our immigration system (or lack thereof) as much as anyone but frick you people for finding joy in this. There is nothing christian nor human about mocking and cheering this. The man made a mistake by being here illegally but it pains me to think about how bad he saw his life becoming if he decided ending it would be better.

Loose borders should be blamed for such a situation happening, not the people who take advantage of it. If he has a family, death will be carried by them for the rest of their lives, like some uncanny foretaste of a bitter memory.

You don't have a christian heart if you don't at least somewhat feel bad about this. The bell tolls for you tonight, too.

I don't think these individual cases are a good argument against deportations but the celebratory tone here is fricked up

I'm not happy about this, but it doesn't change my position. Emotion has to have its place under reason.

He should not have been here. That's what a lax immigration policy and shitty border security does. It gets people killed.

It sounds like the guy had debts to pay back home. It says a lot about Mexico that he'd rather kill himself than owe someone across the border.

If their best and brightest all weren't in the US Mexico wouldn't be such a shithole and this dude would still be alive
