Caldwell:

LSU's new women's basketball coach, Nikki Caldwell, has a five-year contract that guarantees her at least $700,000 a year. The salary could top $1.2 million with bonuses tied to team performance.

Nothing. Title IV has every school by the balls.
Would never happen, but if they just removed football from the Title IX sports agenda, then enacted the equal gender number of sports then it would make a little more sense.

Not pay our extremely average women's basketball coach so much.

Whew, looks like we saved that money.

How do you know? Has any business been approached with Tiger Park opportunities? Think of all the women's products/stores/ etc that could fit, as well as the local sporting goods stores and restaurants. I doubt they've tried.

Make sure our 3 biggest men's sports are successful so they can support everything else.

1) Dismantle Title IX (not IV).
2) Make all sports gender neutral meaning it doesn't matter if you are a guy, a girl or half-and-half...whoever is the best at that particular sport/position gets the scholly. No more claims that men get priority. If you are good enough for a scholarship, you get the scholarship.

because if they were the ads would be there already.
i mean look around campus. every piece of real estate that can be covered with ads has them plastered on it.
if they had a sale, Alleva would jump on it.

Don't pay $800k for a women's basketball coach. I get that is Caldwell is not the highest paid coach in the SEC, but paying $800k is just a poor return on investment.
Unlike Men's BB, it makes more fiscal sense to go with a cheap up and comer hire in Women's BB. It's not sexist to say that women's sports aren't going to be big money-makers (if money-makers at all). There just isn't enough demand for the product from fans or television networks. It doesn't make a ton of sense to throw a lot of money at an unprofitable product. Unfortunately in the world we live in today fiscal sense takes a back seat to feelings and the unreasonable need for "equality" in every aspect.
Rational people understand that women's athletics isn't a profitable business. Thus, the justification for spending a ton of money on that business isn't there. Unfortunately, rational thinking is a fading concept these days.

You are going to lose money on women's sports every year. The key is to limit how much you will lose.
So turn that 17 mill loss into a 15 mill loss.

Other than basketball, none of the women's sports are really money generators anyplace. I don't think LSU is an exception. Obviously we get great crowds for gymnastics and softball, and in the past women's BBall had pretty good crowds. There are other schools with exceptions: I'm sure UConn's Women's BBall makes good money.
I mean if you take men's football out, do you think the men's sports as a whole turn a profit? According to the 2014-2015 numbers, football made a profit of $57M, men's bball $1.9M, and all the other sports combined lost $47M. Besides football and basketball it doesn't break it down by individual sports; I'd imagine Gymnastics, baseball, and maybe softball made money and everything else lost.

All the sports that lost money will always lose money. All we can do is make sure baseball is on the positive side. Everything else will remain the same forever.
