I will be in west Palm Beach next week for a few days! Can't wait to see the boys up close. Never been to spring training before, anyone have any tips?

So what's our predicted final 25?
starters
Keuchel
McCullers
Mchugh
Fiers
Morton
musgrove
bullpen
sipp
devenski
feliz
gregerson
harris
giles
lineup
springer - cf
bregman - 3b
altuve - 2b
correa - ss
beltran - lf
gattis - dh
mccann - c
gurriel - 1b
reddick - rf
bench
aoki
marwin
marisnick
So that leaves the final spot to: AJ Reed,Tyler White,Preston Tucker,Teoscar, and Kemp
Who gets it? Sucks that kemp has no room, he was a hitter down the stretch last year.
Gattis has to be the backup catcher right? No way we carry stassi I hope.

I dunno if Jake is a lock honestly. I would like to see Hernandez on the roster for another OF bat that can play against lefties. I think Reed will get a spot though

Yea I like Marisnick but I dont know if I care that much about OF defense for the final inning.....but then again im sure rangers fans would've loved marisnick back in the world series

Saw this on the twitters... thought it interesting.
At the end of this season, will George have done anything to move up a spot on this list? Or does he move down?

I would assume most GMs would take George over Blackmon right now.

Lorenzo Cain is so good I cant believe he's ranked so low, Pollock too was looking incredible before he missed all of last year basically. I like George alot but he strikes out so much, I like Cain so much bc he really doesnt strike out much. He was so big in their big playoff push, I just dread george coming to bat in key situations, he's a great hitter but moving guys over is so key and strikeouts really hurt.

This is Jakes waterloo. The time for carrying a team mascot on the roster is done.

He is so streaky with his approach too. When he stops trying to smash the ball and simply goes with the pitch, he is as good as anyone (Altuve and Trout not included).
Seems like he gets on a hot streak and then changes his approach to "George Smash". When that happens, his K rate soars and the ball doesn't.
So, that brings me to a new topic. I've been of the mindest (quite vocally) for the past 2+ seasons that it's long past time for Dave Hudgens to go. It seems like every star prospect takes a serious step back (more than expected) when he hits the majors.
Somehow, Bregman was able to turn it around. And Altuve is the best hitter in baseball.
So are those two guys successful despite Hudgens, or are the new guys just failing on their own?
I'd hate to remove Hudgens from the equation if that means Altuve regresses. But I truly believe he is successful despite Hudgens, not because of.

Yep. His hair doesn't even do it for me anymore... it's so 2015.

George needs to chill out and quit trying to lead the league in lead off homers. A good lead off man works counts, is a pest to put away and steals bases. I love george but we need a lead off man, we cant have a guy striking out 200 times batting at the top of our order. Biggio never struck out over 120 times in a season, george was at almost 180 last year, thats alot of opportunities squandered.
Do you remember Rafael Furcal in his prime? He was such a pain in the arse I hated him. It seemed like he worked counts like crazy and when he got on base he put so much pressure on your pitcher. He always seemed to work counts and I just looked he only topped 100 strikeouts once.
Look at last years top 10 strikeout guys
Chris Davis
Mike Napoli
Justin Upton
George Springer
Miguel Sano
Mark Trumbo
Khris Davis
Todd Frazier
Nelson Cruz
All those guys are middle of the order bats, you just cannot have your tablesetter whiffing at that pace.

Altuve and Bregman's success is more of a product of them knowing their swings added with their desire to be great, IMO.
I hate how under appreciated George is due to his high K rate. He's a great player. Hopefully his deficiencies will be hidden with our new, lower K'ing lineup.

John Heyman Article: Final Grading of each team's off-season moves
Seems he doesn't think highly of the new Astros offense for the amount they spent. I would've graded it a B.
quote:
Houston Astros: They made several big bold maneuvers to build an excellent offense, gathering names early when the prices seemed highest. In the end, they seemed to have overpaid drastically for Josh Reddick, Brian McCann and Charlie Morton, especially compared to moves that came later. In any case, the lineup is imposing. As for the rotation, well, that remains a question. They need Dallas Keuchel and Lance McCullers Jr. back healthy and dealing, especially if they can’t complete a deal for Quintana. Grade: C.
quote:
Texas Rangers: They did a nice job filling holes with one-year deals, gathering Mike Napoli, Carlos Gomez and Andrew Cashner without breaking what seemed to be an uncharacteristically restrained budget. Napoli is a winner and Gomez seemed to form a great and quick connection with manager Jeff Banister. But Cashner, at this point, looks like a flyer, the type of hard-throwing talent who is destined to break your heart. Overall, their offense probably won’t be as good, with Desmond, Beltran and Moreland gone, but they also likely saved some money for some potential extensions (more on that below) and their usual deadline dealing. Grade: B-minus.

Everybody holds us back from contender status bc of pitching but if Keuchel can be Cy young keuchel again and Mccullers can avoid injury those are 2 aces that can matchup with anyone. Musgrove is exciting and probably could strikeout 200 if he got 200 innings. Fiers/Mchugh/Morton are meh at best but with our lineup we can win games they give up 5 runs in.

Interesting that Doug Fister is still a free agent
Posted on 2/23/17 at 12:57 pm to Big Floppy TDs
Why? He's not very good. If musgrove is in the rotation and Morton as well, do we try to trade fiers or make him a reliever? He strikes out a lot of guys and you can never have enough strikeout guys in the pen. Lots of guys who don't cut it as starters become fine relievers look at dotel, he had a great career as a reliever

That wall he hit toward the end of last year was pretty hard.

Springer K's a lot but on the flip side, his OBP is one of the best in the league
