Dishonesty in media and politics

One of the most troubling issues plaguing America today is the lack of honest, unbiased news sources. Everyone knows how garbage the MSM media is with its incredibly biased clickbait reporting.
And then on the other hand, politicians including our current president lie straight to our faces and flip flop on issues to appeal to the masses or win votes.
No wonder America is so divided.

How come when a Republican is in office, we are divided.
When a Dem is in office, we are united.
Same demographics...nothing has changed since 2000.
Just more media talking points.

It's an inherent cognitive bias in our perceptions of in-groups and out-groups. We overestimate both the similarities within groups and the differences between groups.

One of the latest examples of this is all of the hysteria over the ICE round up of a few hundred illegal immigrants who have been on ICE's radar for months. The media is acting like this is unprecedented, yet Obama admin has averaged more than 380,000 deportations every year and went over 400K back in 2015, yet no massive media coverage over last 8 years of this. Just the few hundred from this past weekend.

I don't think it's all garbage. There's plenty of good journalism out there. Sometimes you just have to read a few different sources on one specific issue to get the full picture.

Easy answer. It's because when a Dem is in office Republicans don't riot, break windows, steal stuff and burn stuff down. So, there is an appearance of unification.

All I can say is prior to Obama, America seemed to be getting along fairly well along racial and social lines. There were divides about the Iraq War and what not, but overall there wasn't a whole lot of nastiness. The left hated Bush, but they didn't riot about it.
Obama gets into office and claims he will unite us. 8 years later we have BLM people killing cops, we have more Islamic homegrown terrorism, we have crazy white kids killing black church goers, and we have a rise in mass killings in general. We also have a whole slew of millennial kids wearing masks and running around destroying cities and "shutting down" speakers they don't like. None of this shite happened before Obama. There were mass shootings during Bush's reign, but they were almost all crazy people (literally crazy) who shouldn't have had guns. There was very little politically motivated violence from radical groups like BLM. Even Islamic terrorism on U.S. soil was rare.
I don't know, you be the judge. It doesn't seem like Obama was a very good uniter. He was certainly a far worse uniter than Bush was a decider.

However, I think all sides are complicit in the division.
Not to mention, I think it's also not as divided as we think, we just have unlimited access to divisive behaviors. So the few who do it, get much more attention in the social media, 24 hour news age than before it.

None of my Republican friends are doing that. You must run with a different crowd.
