Agreed. These people have no idea what life is like on our side of the world. And a lot of people who live on our side of the world have no idea what true hardship is that these people and many others around the world experience.

We've got it made here in the US. As much as everyone complains about all the nutjobs running around, we are extremely blessed to live here.

Can't wait until the day North Korea 'falls' and the outside world is able to actually view what has been going on inside.

Why is it "absolutely forbidden" to take a picture of the Kim statue from behind?

That set makes the rounds on Imgur about once a week.

There's another set that floats around on /b/ that's a lot more fricked up.

I really don't understand why the North doesn't just overthrow that fat frick and join the South. Surely they know how far ahead the South is. Why keep supporting grass eating?

My understanding is that the common North Korean really doesn't know how far ahead the South is. They are indoctrinated from an early age that the South exists solely as puppets of the US, that the US started and the North won the Korean War, and that only through eternal vigilance can they prevent the US from once again invading and destroying their country.

Suggest watching the interviews of those who make it to South Korea. A lot of them are very fearful because if they do try to escape, their entire family line will be rounded up and imprisoned. They really don't have the resources to stage any kind of uprising

Many of them know more than you would think. You have lots of foreign service people who may tell people what they've seen. There are also organizations that send USB drives, movies, and other things across the DMZ via balloons.

North Korea is the best example you can get in a case you to make against communism.

The state is literally worshipped as the god of all North Koreans. Religion whether it be christianity, buddhism, hinduism or whatever ism there is, is completely banned there. That's how bad it is there.

They're so massively brainwashed that they literally worship the government and Supreme Leader as their god. A resistance movement against the regime is not going to happen organically short of complete societal collapse.

And there's also the fact they government makes sure that North Koreans have no idea of what's going on in the outside world not named Africa and the mideast and how far advanced they are.

North Korea is fascinating to me. I visited Panmunjom once. It's the little area on the DMZ where the north and south hold meetings. By far the strangest place I've been.

I'm going there next month.

You going as military or a civilian? The civilians got to check out the tunnels. Would have liked to see those. The village itself is still cool, though.

Those poor people deserve better. If the UN would do what they're supposed to do, N Korea would be invaded tomorrow.

But they won't, so why is the UN even a thing?

I went there twice in 1984 while at Osan AB. Like you, I wanted to see the tunnels but never got the chance.

It's really crazy when you go into one of the conference buildings. The border runs through the center of the room, so you can actually step into North Korea while inside. The first time I went, N. Korean guards were staring into the window at us. You can't speak to them or raise your arms in any way. Also, don't even joke about trying to walk out of the back door and going out into the N. Korean side. These days, that's akin to making jokes about exploding devices in front of TSA officials at the airport.

Going by the Bridge of No Return is also a bit chilling.

Pretty sad looking place.

This shopping cart. What isle is the dog food on?

It does sadden me that the people there are starved, for everything it looks like.We go through life trying to decide what to eat.We eat what sounds good to us at a particular moment.

I've certainly never suffered from malnutrition.

Good grief this is dumb. You must be trolling. Unfortunately, not to dissimilar to many of our foreign policy decisions for the last 20 years.

Same here.

I always wonder if the "real" North Korea is the one we are told about and read in the yahoo "tabloids" or just propaganda.

Similar to how they view the US with the propaganda they are fed
