well the conviction on their record sure doesn't help the job opportunity

However, a lot of the offenders didn't exactly have skills that relate to employment before being convicted.
well let's take some of that money used to house these guys and throw it at job training and education before the fact the population falls down the shite rabbit hole

Lavrentiy Pavlovich Beria, once head of Stalin’s secret police and was a right bastard. He told Stalin, “Show me the man and I’ll find you the crime"

They clearly need new laws to address the lack of criminals.

Aren't the Netherlands immigration policies based off of your ethnicity, not your nationality?

For the record, I'm not disagreeing with you. I think the US penal system is terrible. But to ignore the stark differences in education, family structure, geography, culture, and immigration policies when discussing prisons is just avoiding reality.

Why does that mean a percentage of our prison population can't be cut down through rehabilitation instead of felonies for non violent crimes? Obviously the countries are different but that doesn't mean trying more rehab instead of locking people up is a bad idea

work release programs and shite

We have those. The incarcerated tend to escape from them. Should we shackle them all together like a chain gang?

Too often common sense is set aside to satisfy special interests ($$) and bureaucracy. We are too far gone.

We do. We do have drug courts. But what can you do about repeat offenders? People who commit burglary for their habit? Identity theft? It's tough. There are changes to be made, but don't think courts don't have avenues for people who are nonviolent drug offenders.

man work release programs in this state are a complete joke and nothing but a money grab by the sheriffs and their brother in laws...

Ever notice they are always right next door to the 'for profit' prisons and next door to a fab shop that employs the workers.... and all three owned by the same family? Complete joke and NOTHING about it is for helping out the prisoners

That's what happens with homogenous, white countries.

Why do you hate the people these laws support?

Do you hate the kids that go to want to go to a drug free school?

Or the police that civil asset forfeiture supports and subsidizes? Why are you in favor of criminals keeping their belongings?

What about the lawyers and judges that spent $100k+ in legal education trying to make the world a more just place? Do you think they don't deserve some financial compensation for their efforts? Why are you trying to take work away from them?

Or the doctors, nurses, engineers, etc that perform supporting and consulting work for the prisons that house these criminals? Do they not deserve jobs either?

What about the bail bondsmen that support their families?

Finally what about the state government that relies on federal grants to enforce it's drug laws? Do you really want more taxes?

Relaxing drug laws will dramatically raise unemployment and crime among the decent hard working groups across the country.

Since that probably hasn't changed in the past 20 years along with their drop in crime, no.

The fact that for profit prisons exist means there needs to be huge unemployment with them to overhaul our penal system

there is 0 incentive to change people when you get paid for more people breaking the law or repeating offenses

It's this kind of shite that bothers me. Things like civil asset forfeiture, work release programs...heck even Drug Court and probation. The fees keep increasing. Law enforcement becomes a for-profit business.
