The 2-3 threads covering these new hires have a few differing comments concerning Mickey Joseph's potential in NOLA as a recruiter - threads end up getting hijacked by Dylan Moses arguments.

One side says that many NOLA fans are jealous of Joseph because he left LA to play at Nebraska - got out of the slums of NOLA for a better life.

Another says that he's highly respected by NOLA families.

Which is it? Does he still have the NOLA connections, and is he in good favor with the HS coaches?

Seems like most of the coaches in NO actually prefer this.

At this point, how could anyone judge the hire? The results will speak for themselves. The rest is just speculation.

I don't see how any of them could be anti Joseph after everything he's done for kids in that city.

I believe this started when Tyrone Hughes spurned Mike Archer and LSU to sign with Nebraska.

I'm willing to bet that Joseph has signed more New Orleans kids during his college career than Frank Wilson and Juluke combined.

Now they were not all high profile, but you still have to interact with the coaches on the lower profile players.

He claims to have had 37 players from New Orleans on his Langston roster when he was the head coach there. Langston is a small college in Oklahoma.

I would argue that this is an even better way to build true relationships with the coaches. With the blue chip prospects, you're just another face in the crowd of coaches hoping to sign a meal ticket.

The types of kids that he was bringing to these smaller colleges he worked for are kids that are truly getting a life changing opportunity that maybe no one else is willing to give them. It may be their only shot.

And sitting with a coach and talking about one of the kids that really put in hard work and stayed out of trouble without crowds of people telling them there are NFL riches down the road is a much more personal experience and likely the type of bond that these coaches remember years later.

I have been a critic of the hiring process and a wait and see guy on O, but the more I think about this hire the more I think it could be a really good thing for the long term of the program.

Now get this man and Tommie to Hattiesburg and then to NC to talk to Zamir White, stat.

Very excited to see how this all plays out.

He is without question a New Orleans-area legend. Most say he has good if not very good relations with HS coaches in and around NO.

But he has zero experience recruiting at a power 5 and very limited at D1 at all.

Jury is out as to whether he can deliver at a major program as a recruiter.

We all hope he will.

Nebraska and LSU were totally different places back then. His comment on having 37 kids from Nola on his roster at Langston should be quite exciting for the coaches and players in or around New Orleans. I think Joseph makes a name for himself in the years to come!

Having his brother the HC of the Broncos also brings presteige and high profile to him and his family which is good publicity for LSU.

Agreed. Guy has a great name in the area and the coaches seem to be satisfied with the hire. Joseph seems very down to earth I'm ready to see what he can do

The entire Joseph family is well known in NO high school and youth athletics. Vance Joseph was also high profile QB from the Westbank. The Joseph name has never been involved in anything but positive aspects in NO.
Mickey is a can't miss.

Good. From any perspective. Joseph will be a big name with a little time, and the resources and talent now available to him. Good things to come.

Thanks for the feedback - I assumed he had a good upbringing and obviously has some successful family ties with his brother being an NFL head coach for an organization such as Denver.

I'm curious as to what exactly it takes to be successful at a P5 level versus a smaller program - this guy's had success playing and winning at the highest college level plus his brother's connections - he either knows how to coach and motivate/recruit or he doesn't. Seems like the resources and name recognition of LSU will make his job easier, not harder.

Joseph is from Marrero and not New Orleans and no slums in Marrero and he went to Shaw and not Public School.

He works now for LSU. That should give you more confidence than not that kids will stay home. Few would want to play for Les/Cam. Dem days is ova!
