Why did all the prepper shows get cancelled? They were all getting good ratings.
Top Shot had good ratings for several years and was dropped. Now it's on The Sportsman Channel or something like that.
Big Brotha.

Chacken ain't got no allegiance to IMDb. He will make sure our voices are never silenced.

not sure how you are equating free speech eroding away with a private company shutting down its message board

I think you need a refresher on what "free speech" means. Free speech means you can say what you want without legal consequences outside of stuff like screaming fire in a crowded room, hate speech, etc. Free speech doesn't guarantee anyone access to an online message board that someone has to spend a significant amount of money for you to have access too.

It's left to the UN. Obama handed them control of the Internet

Political correctness did not work out so they are going with direct censorship.

Did we ever turn control of this over to the UN?
UN
Obama wants to hand over ICANN to the rest of the world. This is the organization that regulates and protects the Internet.
It holds all domain names and has the ability to control what can and can’t be on the Internet.
Potentially letting the United Nations and China control it would be a disaster for free speech.

So maybe two people need a refresher on free speech...

You mean like Alone, Hunted, etc? Because they, and others, are still on but a lot of people are feeling less concerned and survivalist necessary now that Obama is gone.
As far as the IMdb is concerned I've noticed a lot of editors and contributors over there have been laying into celebrities lately on their message boards and they cannot keep up with the moderation aspect.
Plus their software is outdated and it's gotta be a bandwidth big nightmare. They'll probably save big money.

They were cancelled a couple of years before the dear leader was sent packing.
Alone, Hunted, etc., are not prepper shows.

The culture of censorship is one of the scariest things forming right now. I am always quick to shoot down the straw-man argument, "But the First Amendment applies only to government action."
The reason that's a straw man is because, yeah, no shite. No one said otherwise.
But the First Amendment doesn't mean shite if we live in a culture willing to self-censor because we no longer value freedom of expression and value more the freedom from offense or exposure to "negativity" (aka "opposing views").
My mantra for decades has been that law follows culture. So the First Amendment, while it won't be repealed or amended in my lifetime or yours, can be gutted and ignored in many "judicial" and extra-judicial ways. It already has been in many jurisdictions. Thank GOD we don't have HRC stacking the Court over the next several years. But even still, the Court can't hear everything.
Also, as behemoth companies like Google, FB, Amazon, and Apple continue to control the exchange of information, there isn't much the Supreme Court or any other court can do about their domination of "expression." We may end up the victims of a pseudo-fascist "free market" dictatorship.
So I do believe it is paramount to oppose even private censorship. Not in an SJW whiny way, but by grasping and preaching the importance of open discourse.

That's a good point scrooster. People calling out celebs for their stance on a issue and it makes headlines. So their opinion is OK to air publicly but we must shield them from the peoples opinion of them? Sounds like the opposite of free speech to me, at least for the common poor man who doesn't have access to worldwide attention via media (as it's being taken away)

IMDb is the world's most popular and authoritative source for movie, TV and celebrity content. As part of our ongoing effort to continually evaluate and enhance the customer experience on IMDb, we have decided to disable IMDb's message boards on February 20, 2017. This includes the Private Message system. After in-depth discussion and examination, we have concluded that IMDb's message boards are no longer providing a positive, useful experience for the vast majority of our more than 250 million monthly users worldwide.
In other words....it's too much of a pain in the arse and expense to maintain and monitor.
It's not a free speech issue because (1) IMDb is not government, and (2) they are not silencing some and not others. They killed the whole thing.

Off-topic, but I think this is one of the best shows on TV, especially from a human virtue standpoint. I am only 3 eps into S3, but S2 was a solid study on human nature and the mind/spirit. I despise reality TV, and "survival" shows, but the way they set up Alone is genius.
