I know what you're saying, but California is the world's 6th largest economy on its own. I think they'd be OK without anyone else. They essentially subsidize large sections of the US that aren't holding up their ends of the bargain. To your point, we're still all better off together than not.

And those takers bitch and moan when prices go up. No prices didn't go up, tax went up.

Do you really think the only reason prices increase are taxes? Not sure what you're saying there.

You're also not paying state income tax and have lower sales tax (by a decent bit depending on where you live). I'd make that trade in heartbeat.

yessir
a crippling sales tax is the worst possible solution to the problem of government revenue.
this state is so arse-backwards it defies explanation.
lower the sales tax, lower or eliminate the income tax, raise property taxes, ease obstacles to starting (and patronizing) a small business, cut spending and waste, and watch the magic happen. five more years and I am out of this joke of a state

You can probably go ahead and start packing then.

You have obviously never driven through St. Martin and St. Landry Parish...

frick it, it's not like we make a lot of money in LA, anyways. They don't get much.

unlike a number of other oil-excavating states, receives no revenues for most of the oil extracted just off its shores;
1. I don't think Tennessee gets any royalties for their offshore oil.
2. Why should any state receive royalties for oil harvested from the federally owned GOM?

You are fricking kidding right? This is the most idiotic statement I've read today
Posted on 2/3/17 at 9:47 pm to ihometiger
facts are facts
I pay 1800/yr property tax on a 250,000 house
on the other hand I pay exponentially more in income tax which encourages me to find every possible way to maneuver around that, and who knows how much in sales tax which encourages me to buy from places that help me avoid it
meanwhile the poor pay a much higher percentage of their income in taxes than I do

Move to Orleans and tell me how much cheaper the property taxes are compared to the rest of the country. Tangi--okay 1/2 of what Orleans is.
Posted on 2/3/17 at 10:44 pm to ihometiger
I owned two homes in Orleans parish
one in Algiers and one in lakeview
I don't remember what the property taxes were but it's not germane
the fact of the matter is with the exemption LA property owners pay less than comparable states in property taxes which cannot be avoided except thru BS assessments. Property owners are invested in the community and avail themselves of the various services provided by the municipality and state as a result. every other state manages to balance property taxes with a lower sales tax and in some instances no income tax
you don't see the issue?

I don't know where you've been driving but the roads in NV, CA and AZ are far superior to what I experienced that last time that I came home to NOLA. I drove on some Lakeview streets that looked like they belonged in Aleppo.
