Umm private and catholic school teachers make way less than charter and what public used to pay in nola.

Why would there be 2 to 3 times the number of classrooms? The supply of students isn't going to increase.
Because the number of schools will increase.
Think think think.
Let's use the $500K number per 30 kids. (you understand that would be 500k/30=$16,666 per kid) Let say instead of filtering that $16,666 per kid through the bureaucracy of government we simply gave it to the kid to use at any education facility available to him.
Now you see those kids and you decided to start a little schools for you and your friends or something like that. You want twenty students. You will then have $333,333 per YEAR to start your little school. SURELY you could to that.
Now that is a vary simple example but is what would happen.

It will not increase average salaries in my opinion. It will increase the ceiling quite a bit for good teachers and lower the floor for not so good teachers.

Because most of them suck at their job, and they know it. And I doubt it will raise wages, but create a more rewarding work environment that acknowledges the best.

They do but not the charter schools that are getting funding close to the public school funding per student.
Catholic school tuition is no where close to the amount of money that the government spends per pupil. Not even half in most instances.

Yea.. Well when i went to catholic school in nola they had PE coaches teaching history and science classes.
Private schools are not inherently better. You get what you pay for in that case.

I'm curious in a very non contentious way... Do you think there should be no licensing for teachers?
This is my 3rd year teaching without a license. I'll have a master's next month and will become eligible for certification, but still. Teaching is mostly on the job training, imo. I don't even know if a bachelor's is necessary to be honest. Maturity, patience, and a desire to learn are really the most important qualities of a teacher.

i mean i don't believe in licensing (even for lawyers) generally in my fantasy land
but in reality, it should be based either off of education (if you have e masters in an area, you get to teach that area) or an objective standard (if you can pass the Praxis 2 in that area, you can automatically teach)

I agree. Too bad that likely will never happen.
edit: I think having a master's in education AND passing the praxis does make someone eligible for certification in LA.

Because the number of schools will increase.
Think think think.
And if there are fewer students per school, and certain resources (building and maintenance costs) are stable, then it's aszz profitable investment.

Freedom of association? For AMERICANS?
We must stop this.

the unions would never allow it

the "course work" that i knew was being done by education majors was a joke. the certification racket is there to protect the under qualified people going into teaching. frick having a history major teaching history or a biology major teaching biology, here's Kaylee Educationmajor to do both.
Posted on 2/3/17 at 10:35 am to SlowFlowPro
I don't hate unions. Charter schools are pretty much plantations because they aren't required to give teachers breaks or support.

I agree. So where's the problem with that?
(No directing that at you, Eli. Just speaking in general terms)

yeah i have a ton of respect for teachers. my mom is a teacher as are most of her close friends. i had some great teachers who really did help educate me. and teachers get unfairly blamed for trying to save schools filled with students who will never become educated due to outside factors
but
the education major is kind of a joke and often a fallback. it's like construction management for engineeers

As soon as this happens (because its already happening in my neck of the woods) the government will step in and desegregate the schools. This is happening in the Tangipahoa parish where I teach in. Our schools have developed like this: The city schools are mostly AA and are failing and the rural schools are mostly white and are better. So what they do is allow minorities to go to what ever they school they want. This is call migrant to minority.
In return what will happen with school choice, when the rich white schools do well and the public mostly AA schools Fail the government will step in and allow the minority students go to the rich white school for free (vouchers) and desegregate it.
This is already happening at the school I teach at. we are getting more and more AA students because of the ethnicity of our school and some are even done by court order. In return, our scores are dropping more and more every year. And its not the AA student who are in our school zone that are performing bad on their scores, its the ones being shipped in who are used to a school culture that doesn't breed success.
The student that this will hurt the worst is the poor non minority student who want have the choice to go to the "good school" because he or she is neither a minority or rich.
end rant
