What do you mean "China" will up the price? If a company increases their prices artificially, then they also decrease their demand and risk being undercut by somebody else.
*I'm talking about consumer goods manufactured from overseas, and why these are produced overseas and what has to be done to maintain that price both at the manufacturing level and at the consumer, high mfg cost will increase consumer cost.

Minimum wage is supposed to be starting point for when you enter the workforce. It isn't supposed to be a life long goal to make that.

Milton Friedman thought the minimum wage was an abomination.
He called it the single worst thing for helping the unskilled ever get out of poverty.
So no he would not have signed your post.

So yeah, let everyone either a) starve, b) continue to live in a welfare state, or c) turn to crime to feed their families. Great plan, dumbass.
If you are actually competent, then it's not going to cost you shite. If you're a dumbass with no skills, then maybe.

Same here. And I have a newborn now. I'm probably selfish anyways, by I'm not going to support increasing my cost of living because someone else may now have a job, especially knowing that there are plenty of available jobs anyways.
i have no issue being selfish. There are a lot of things I would like to buy or do, that would be a better use of my funds than giving some fricknut a job.

Yeah, let's lay off as much people as humanly possible to maintain the upper middle to upper class level of living all so we can get a bit more bang for our buck, and frick 3/4 of the country. That'd work out great.

If you consider an IPhone and a flat screen TV upper class, then you might be right. We apparently have a huge upper class that you can tell to suck it up when they can no longer afford those two luxury items. After all, it's for the good of the teamsters who miss their pensions.

I would like to buy an appliance or item made to high standards of quality and durability.
I would like to buy an electronic device made with high quality capacitors and other electronic components.
When almost everything in our homes is Made in China, I often confront the reality that few of the appliances or electronic devices are made with high quality and durable components. They are cheap items that break in a year or so.

Particularly when so many search every corner of the Interwebs these days to save $5 vs. going down the street to pick something up.

Although I do go to Dollar Tree a lot.

So many doesn't equal all. And it doesn't equal me. But a little inflation would be healthy for our economy. Again, depending on whether you're measuring CPI or one of the subsets of CPI.Maybe one of the top five posters on the board will have some clue about this. I'm not sure.

I think that we could expect higher quality from Made in USA compared to Made in China.
High quality electrical components and appliances should not add much to the cost of making the device.
Yes, I am willing to pay more for Made in the USA and I expect the product to be high quality just like they were 60 years ago when Zenith in Chicago made TVs and radios and our refrigerators were made in the USA and lasted for at least 25 years. And kitchen bread slice toasters? Heck, some of those Made in the USA appliances might last 100 years.

You obviously were not around in the 70's and 80's when the USA was producing absolute garbage. The Japanese came in and kicked the shite out of Detroit which was putting out cars that were falling apart within a couple of years. A car that would last 100,000 miles was practically unheard of before Toyota showed up on the scene.

Yes, we're all assuming this. Except those that assume instead of importing from China, we'll just import from Singapore. But outside of that reality, price are going to skyrocket. Especially food. Sky rocket. Except they won't. And we'll all know this in another five years or so. But then we'll argue CPI and inflation, and forget about wage inflation and the value of the dollar relative to something else. We'll quote great economists, and simpletons will merely ask, am I better off now then I was five years ago? And that will be the real answer. No matter how hard some try to argue it away.

It all adds up. You ask for components that fit much tighter tolerances, you use better circuit boards, more surge protection, better heat sinks, more rugged mountings, tighter seals, thicker plastic on the cases, etc, etc. You also tend to put the units through more thorough testing.
