Early enrollees at bama

Ala. has 25 commits with 12 being early enrollees. That means they can sign 12 more players for a total signing class of 37. Can't believe that is within the rules of 25 per class.

i believe they can only count back if they are under the 85 for the roster. Don't know how many extra they will be able to take but I'm sure it's not 12

Isn't there a roster limit of 85? If so, several would have to be processed to meet the roster limit.

Why are we worried about this

You are ignorant of the rules. It doesn't work that way.

You can only count back the number below 25 you had incoming from last season

Those 12 count toward the 25.

No roster limit is 110 with 85 on scholly

Only 25 can enroll for fall semester. Early enrolled does not count towards the 25, but they also have to stay under the 85 total allowed.
With that being the case, I don't think they will want 37 freshmen on their team for the fall

I question this being the wrong board.
With Bama being our main rival and having 25 commits at this point and still hosting and recruiting the same players we are going after, yes this is worthy of posting on LSU recruiting board.
Each team can sign 25 players a year and have 85 players on the team with scholarships and every year the ability of a team to sign over 25 players gets very complicated.
Just the fact that BAMA has finished #1 the last 3 years and is on track to finish #1 again this year making their entire roster with players signing with the #1 recruiting class and also getting to sign more than 25 players is amazing.
Life is not fair and the ability of BAMA to do this is far more interesting than asking who is better Moses vs Gay

It is not that simple. They can backcount against the current year but most of the time they count to the following year. The NCAA provides an exception to allow early entrees to count for the following year.
Think about it. Who wants to burn a year of eligibility on a Spring practice?
What I want to know is how did Bama "process" 12 scholarships to have room under the 85 and nobody notice...

In the end, this only helps with one or two players but probably zero. One or two players can sometimes be the difference though. It's probably more hassle than it's worth, but Saban is obsessed with looking under every single rock. Saban will wind up cutting some players prematurely who may have developed into equally or better players than the ones he's making room for. That raises the issue that if Saban were a good evaluate of talent, he wouldn't have to do this.

Some knowledge, but a lot of ignorance in this thread.
Roster size: Before school starts or the first game, the roster is limited to 105 with a max of 85 scholarship players. The non-scholarship players are are preferred walkons. After the first game or school starts, whichever comes first, other walkons can join. There is no official limit. Scholarships are good for 1 year. They must be renewed.
When it comes to new scholarships, it gets a little complicated because there are really two governing bodies that overlap, but not completely. The National Letter of Intent governs signings, the NCAA governs actual awarding and enrollments (i.e. counters).
There is a limit of 25 signings. EEs don't count as a signing. The NCAA has a limit of 25 initial counters in a year, but if you didn't use all of them in the previous year, they let you back count an EE to use up that space. Thus you can have more than 25 in a given year.
The max number that can get in a given year then is calculated as follows:
Because of the multi-year effect, and the record keeping needed, it's not the easiest thing to keep track of, and the only people who know for sure are the administration.
The signing rule came into play because schools were oversigning with players who had no chance of qualifying and since they never enrolled, the initial counter rule never came into play. The powers that be didn't like the optics of this, so they added the rule to limit it.
Since scholarships are limited to 1 year, the 85 only limits the number of new counters as a matter of choice. If space is needed and the coaches want it, players get "processed" one way or another.

If they have 37 freshman, 37/85 is almost half their scholarship players. Please be true
