Shocked i tell you, just shocked i tell you. I really did not used to pay attention to things like this, but now. I can be in a line at Publix and here she comes, fat, 3-5 children, tattoed, iPhone in hand. Out come the junk food, soda, you name it.
And let me make this perfectly clear, it crosses racial boundries!!!!

A case of water is pretty damn cheap. Probably the same as a 12 pk of cokes.

While you're obsessed with this, you're being ripped off by corporate welfare, and you are oblivious. Sad.

No shite.

I was at a Wal Mart a couple weeks ago. I usually go at like 6am so I dont have to deal with the riff raff.

There was only one cash register open and there were these two hispanic ladies buying 3 carts worth of items. I must have stood in line behind them for a good half hour. The main holdup was the cashier kept telling them X or X was not able to be purchased with their EBT. So the ladies would end up paying for that item with cash.

They bought like 5 18 packs of soda amongst their items. Food assistance my arse. They had plenty of money to spend on junk items like soda, chips and candy. 3 carts worth of mostly junk.

These assholes dont need assistance if they can afford 18 packs of root beer. fricking bullshite.

I think once you get sucked into HFCS drinks, water is not an option for a lot of people.

Obsessed? Do you know the meaning? You have more post here than I do chief.

I'm glad they are doing a study. Don't you want to know if a program is working? Don't you want to know if your tax dollars are being abused?

Its time to start shaming the leeches of society. They deserve shame and ridicule for taking advantage of society

Tell the grocery lobbyists to frick off and make food assistance like it used to be: government labeled peanut butter, cheese, powder milk etc. the basics that will keep someone alive and that's it. Or maybe MREs.

A bill has been introduced in Arkansas that would not allow food stamp recipients from buying junk food with food stamps. The state will have to clearly define junk food and retailers would have to enter information in to the bar code system to stop the sale. Also, the state would have to get a waiver from the USDA allowing the restrictions.

I was watching them interview some food stamp recipients on the local news while they disussed this and one was complaining that she would have to spend her own money to buy birthday cakes for her children. Just let that sink in.

That would be a good idea, but you know that senators from corn producing and sugar producing states would be against this.

And if you want to ban potato chips, Doritos, snack cakes you will have a whole bunch of agricultural interests opposed to it.

These would be republican politicians. Do you think the senators from Idaho want to discourage potato consumption? I'm pretty sure the senators from Georgia will look after the interests of Coca-Cola.

I agree that food stamps should only pay for staples, but the whole program has been co-opted by the food lobby. The federal lunch program and food stamps have become cash cows for the food and beverage industry. It's barely even about feeding people.

Yeah just start with drug tests.

In states where they have done this it was found that the expense of administrating drug tests was more expensive than taking away payments from people who flunked.

As I have mentioned elsewhere, I would like to see food stamps replaced by public gardens and farms in which recipients must contribute (if physically able) labor in order to receive the food. This would be more nutritious, it would give people a sense of worthwhile labor, and it would reduce costs for taxpayers.

Good idea. Collective farms would be an awesome way to start socializing agriculture.
