I think his point is if you take the sack, you still lose the down.

You lose the down you just participated in. Its essentially a simulated sack...without getting hit.

On 4th downs, only the fumbling player can recover a fumble. Otherwise, it's a dead ball at the spot of the fumble. I guess your situation only works if someone catches that throw.

So while losing on the last play of the game, you can be tackled and the game is over.

Or you can wildly throw the ball backwards and hope someone catches it.

Yes. A sack at the would-be spot of the foul is also a "loss of down", so that's an irrelevant consideration.

So, I guess I'm to understand that you simply don't understand the very basics of football if you are confused by the question?

When college coaches call timeout after a first down when the other team is trying to run out the clock.

Which Cowboys game was it earlier this year which concluded on a wild multiple-lateral play that went for like 50 yards which ended with the last guy with the ball simply running out of bounds at the 20?

Not leaving it all on the field nor giving 110%.

basically every late game clock management scenario. IMO, dabo did a fricking horrific clock managment job on monday night and it will be overlooked because it worked.

When a RB catches a ball 5-10 yards behind the line of scrimmage knowing damn well they'll get tackled immediately. Just bat the ball down and save the yards.

When the OL clears a path for the RB to run it right up the middle but the RB tries to bounce out and ends up getting tackled by 5 guys behind the LOS.

an NFL or college kicker kicking a ball out of bounds on a kickoff, they should be cut immediately

Yeah, I thought he should have called a TO. He was acting like they were up 2 and not 3. Still, it was at least defensible. The guy running out at the 20...I just don't get it. Perhaps gambling outcomes were involved?

Yep letting like 30 seconds run off the clock to 19 seconds from like the 25 with a shaky FG kicker was ridiculous. Leggett and the PI bailed him out though. The onside kick was pretty dumb/risky too.

People making the catch when the screen is obviously blown up and they et hot straight away, just bat it down so you don't lose yards. Also in college when they do it and their knee Is down

I see nobody knows how to respond to your question. Between the situations you mentioned I think running out of bounds with no time left is worse.

It's amazing how terrible the average team is at attempting the desperate last minute lateral. Coach Kelly at Pulaski Academy in Little Rock who is the hs coach known for never punting and was also Henry's hs coach, has tinkered with creating an offense completely predicated on laterals. I think it's an idea with some merit.

Kickoff or punt returners catching the ball going away inside the 10 yard line. A guy for the Giants did it a couple times in the Packer playoff game, and it was fantastic because he was the idiot on the other team. But when it's mine it drives me nuts.
