There are ally more people than you think.
$1 million is not hard to get to if you have a good idea and implement it.
There is a guy in Texas that runs a few large shops that repairs mowers strictly for homecenters and bills through a third party who has the contract to service those accounts.
He has small warehouses, a few big trucks, a few employees who he treats very well, and his only inventory is parts which turn fast.
He has two lawn mower retail places to help with rebates on parts from larger mfgs.
He services areas other companies do not want to service.
At the same time he is servicing areas with big box retailers, not many local service centers, and a large amount of people that buy riding mowers or zero turns.

A lot of small business owners in small towns kill it, some more so than their big city counterparts. One example is the jewelry store owner. They get every single piece of business in small towns with no competition. I know a lot of small town jewelry guys who are rolling in cash. Obviously, they don't have the cost of living that some big city guys do and it's easier for them to to amass it over time.

True story. Little Quincy FL, just across the GA line, has about as many millionaires per capita as anywhere. Years ago, the mayor at the time, had all of the residents invest at least $1000 into Coca-Cola stock. Early in the company going public. They are all now rich.

Davidson did get hit with about 6", that is a big snow for there.

I live in a smaller town 20 miles east of Dallas full of rich people and also has its share of $30k millionaires.

My friends know we do well, but not one of them really has a full understanding of how well.

For the last three years, we have made over $500,000 per year and still lived pretty much the same life we were living at $170,000 per year.

I think if people knew we were making this much money, they would be shocked.

For me, my definition of wealth is when my money makes money for me. That's the wealth I want and at almost 38, I can make that happen in two or three more years.

some of the railroad guys can retire easily with more than a million in the bank.

This is very true. RR retirement can very lucrative if you can make their 30/60 rule. You can retire full benefits at age 60 if you have at least 30 years service in. Also the spouse can draw 50% of what the RR retiree is drawing monthly without ever having worked at the RR. Damn good deal if you can make it that long with the RR and not get divorced! Problem is RR work is especially tough on operation level employees. Can be a very tough work environment.

South of I64 - Shenandoah NP is pretty much shut down with Ice. Where I was at had about 2 in of ice on the surface. Jeep Rubicon in 4 high with white knuckles made it out fine.
Reports up here are saying everything East of I 95 in VA and NC got blasted much worse.
Richmond- Raleigh 8-12 inches with amounts higher east. Your area looks like all Ice but Lenoir & Hickory got about 10 in.

There are places between Grandfather Mountain and Blowing Rock that the wind might blow you right off of the PW.

All of them should.

You can put 50k in the bank every year doing instrumentation if you don't live like a fricking idiot.

Not to mention that with 50 hours of OT per week, they don't even have time to spend what they earn.
