LOL. Can't live without figs.
(figs are what the British call cigarettes)

I quit cold turkey about 12 years ago. It was not easy. Here is a list of things that helped:
- Stop drinking for at least 2 months, easier to do after football season
- Stop taking long road trips, this was crucial for me since I smoked more during travel
- Stop hanging around your friends that smoke for at least 2 months
- Find something to occupy your time and keep busy, I found I smoked more when I was bored.
- Hang out with people who are positive and will motivate you to quit
- Stop going to bars and nightclubs that allow smoking, plus you quit drinking as of now so no need to be in them
After about 3 months of not hanging out with my smoker friends I decided to test my will power. I went to a birthday bbq where just about everyone smoked. I was able to drink and have a good time without smoking. Once I realized this, it made it extremely easy for me to quit.

Just thinking about that scenario made me light one up.

That's how I have been for 14 years.
I just enjoy smoking cigs. I have a big meal, a cup of good coffee, a few drinks, a couple hits of a joint...im wanting to chase it with a cig.
I think it ultimately depends on your personality. I can't even indulge and give in for one cigarette because that'll be all she wrote for my quitting efforts.

I quit four months ago using nicorette lozenges. I smoked about the same amount as you for a few years longer. It is really difficult to stay away from smoking while drinking, so I just didn't drink the first few months, or don't drink to the point where you're like "frick it, give me a smoke".
I'm still on the lozenges, though I'm down to about 3-4/day of the 2mg. They definitely help, so I'd recommend taking one of those in place of a cigarette.

You will eventually say to yourself that you can allow yourself to have only 1 while you are drinking, and you will not go back to it. Know that this is a lie. It will snowball on you, and you will be back to starting over again.
There are no real tricks. You just have to blow past it and not allow yourself to have one. Eventually you will have broken the habit, and you won't think about it as much. Cravings will never go completely away though. I am about a year and a half since my last cigarette. I will still get mild cravings every once in a while especially if I am kicking it with friends and having a few beers. It is easier to blow past and stop think about now because I know that I really don't want one in truth, and it would make me feel like shite.

I just think of a peabrained cliche like "Make Your Lungs Great Again!" and draw strength from its simplicity.

When I used to smoke a lot of weed, I would also chain smoke cigarettes. The two went together very well imo. Smoking weed wasn't stopping me from smoking cigarettes or sipping on a 6 pack of beer.

I quit the Wednesday before Christmas.. cold turkey. I've smoked for 18-19 years.. and I don't know how I'm doing it, but I don't want one at all. It helped that I had the flu that week of Christmas.

Honestly. Have one and feel the regret the next day. Or buy some nicotine gum or lozenges for the going out phase
