Your insurance company already has noted you've been in wreck, since you called.
Prepare to be dropped soon.

Did that thing come with a dental dam?

Wow, really? What makes it so expensive? Is it the bumper cover?
Being a 2017 model. Parts may not be available anywhere but OEM from Chevy. If the Volt's body style hasn't changed for a couple a years (which I don't know). Then there may be cheaper aftermarket parts available.

You leased a Chevy Volt?! I'd worry less about how much it will cost to fix the car than how much it'll cost to fix your reputation.

If you have been with the same company for a while your premiums won't go up for minor accidents, the big negative is it will show as a wreck on the carfax which could hurt relsale. I would say to fix that would cost you out of pocket $2500-3k
Need a new bumper and fender. (cheaper to replace fender than bill the hours of bodywork) The paint work is where it's high. If it's a shop that can get cheaper panels you may get it for $2k.

- I get to use the HOV lane during rush hour traffic that saves me 30 minutes of commute time everyday because the Volt is classified as an zero emissions vehicle.
- I get free charging at work on top of that, so I spend $0 per month in gas costs.
- Electric car technology is changing rapidly, and advances are being made every year. So it makes sense to lease one at this time, so that you don't get stuck with outdated technology. Most electric car sales at this time are leases.
- I got $7500 rebate from the federal government and $1500 check from my state for leasing this car.
I bet you didn't know any of this, but resorted to making a sweeping generalization about a car. For someone that is stuck in MS, the joke is really on you.

The 2017 model was the fist year of the redesigned 2nd generation Volt. So I guess I am stuck with paying OEM prices for the parts. Thanks for your input.

Fun facts: 1) I'm not stuck in MS, just my TD handle. 2) You, however, still drive a broke dick Chevy Volt.

insurance has to pay for it, they just try to get off cheap.
No, they do not. The use of refurbished parts are included in almost every private passenger insurance policy. If the insurer wants to use refurb parts and you want brand new parts, you are paying the difference out of pocket.

It's a 2017 Chevy Volt. I have a $500 deductible on my insurance. They have recommended an 'approved' body shop to get this fixed that seems to be like an expensive place (based on online reviews). So I'd like to see if I can just get this fixed on my own at an independent body shop, so that my premiums don't go up.
Pick whichever shop you want. Get an estimate.
