I mean basketball really isn't big in the south outside of North Carolina

The NBA is a great product. I don't watch near as much as I did in the past due to having a family but I still watch most playoff series.

Because Tigerdroppings doesn't make up the majority of anything

The NBA is very popular in Texas and there's a lot of Texas posters on here. I know you're probably not lumping that in with the south but still

My guess is there are a lot of cranky old southern guys on this site who long for the days of Larry Bird.

I quit watching the NBA after Lew Alcindor, Wilt Chamberlin, Walt Frazier, and others from that era retired. Started looking more and more like playground basketball. No interest at all.
Quit watching NFL for most part other than maybe an occasional Saints game. No interest. Have other things to occupy my time.

I'm a big spurs fan so I watch some games during the regular season, but I agree that the regular season doesn't not matter much. Literally half the teams make the playoffs. And often teams with losing records make the playoffs. I wish they would cut down the amount of playoff teams.

The NBA playoffs feels like it lasts three months. It's a whole season by itself.

Playoffs are mid April through June 20th or so. Crazy long. Individual games or matchups prior to March are pretty meaningless to the playoff picture.

I don't watch sports much anymore beyond my teams. I will watch a game if its a big game but I usually am doing other things at the same time and don't pay much attention til the 4th quarter/ 7th inning/ last 5 minutes.

You seem like a pussy reactionary Trumpkin.

Albert still calls games for TNT. Haven't seen Fratello on TV in ages since TNT hired Miller and Webber as analysts. The NBC national broadcasts back then blows ABC's broadcasts of today out of the water. Mike Breen and Mark Jackson are really average. Yes, Bob Costas and Pat Riley were a helluva lot better to listen to at halftime than Sage Steele and Michael Wilbon. Inside the NBA is good, but for those that cut cable, they can't watch it. The best thing about NBA Inside Stuff was you didn't need to have cable to watch it. Now, I have no idea what channel to find it. Probably hidden on NBA TV. I don't find today's game fast at all. I still see the same boring half court offenses as I did years ago.
I'm not "cranky" at all. I just tell it how it is. The cold reality is, NBA used to be a much better product. Now it fricking blows.

Game has become soft as hell. Very few or no rivalries. Players ignore mid range game. Offenses are just half court Oriented.
Wrong.
The NBA is as good as it's ever been. Watch Golden State.
Those complaining about Mark McGwire can't even spell his name correctly.

In fact, that's why the NBA changed the rules in the early 2000's to allow zone defense. The reason was because 90's basketball, especially late 90's and early 00's, was a very slow-paced game with isolation heavy offenses with a lot of 1 on 1 because of the man to man rules. In other words, it became boring.
The NBA changed the rules to encourage more movement and passing on offense and a more up and down fast-paced game. And it worked.
If you have t watched the NBA in 7 or 8 years, then you might think it's still a slow game. But these days, it's fast-paced.
I challenge you to watch the Rockets / Thunder game tonight and see for yourself if you still think the game is a slow half-court game.

MMA - too many events. Too watered down.

Congrats. You named one team out of 30 teams that is actually entertaining to watch.

the celtics and the lakers literally own like half of the titles won
whats happening right now in the NBA in terms of parity is nothing new and it is not worse than it has been. its just how the sport of basketball operates. one or two players can dominate the league
The same two teams have never played in the Finals in three consecutive seasons.
So yeah.
