Actually very scary that this child hasn't been found yet. Human trafficking scale just jumped several notches unfortunately.

It never ceases to amaze me how many predators are out there willing to take advantage of a rebelous teenager.
Feeding them drugs, alcohol and lies about being "free" only to entrap those children into a short lifetime of slavery to drugs or pimps.

The issue is that what most people have invisioned in their head as 'human trafficking' is far from the reality of it.... although it's all just as terrible for family and friends.

Is this "trafficking" thing really going on where kids just randomly get snatched up? I have been out of the loop on this

I think it's more an issue of them being coerced into it and not really "captive". They just don't realize they're being used right away.

oh yeah it does exist, and it is horrible, but it is rare
they are expanding the definition of "trafficking" to make it seem more prevalent to scare people
there are many organizations who just want to promote this fear-mongering and it's scary how many people buy into it without really thinking about it. it's like what MADD (who is basically a prohibitionist organization at this point) does with DWIs

while i'm sure that does happen, it's extremely, and i mean EXTREMELY rare
most of the time it's a runaway or a kid with a drug problem who engages in prostitution. if they are part of some group, that's now "trafficking" with how broad the term is these days. often these groups make these shitty conditions a bit safer for the kids

Once these sick fricks get a kid hooked on drugs, they become their slaves.
These people live life like it's a George R.R. Martin novel. Child sex slaves? Been legal is Essos for 1000 years...can't be THAT evil. Especially when she will do anything for her fix.
It's really scary how strong human rationalization skills can be. It's just sickening.

Mexico City is STILL a raging inferno of true "snatchings". And they are so fricking young.

Why do you think they whisk their victims away to a far away city? It serves to strengthen their grip on the victim as they are seemingly out of reach from their families and in a unfamiliar location away from any friends who are not "in the life". The predators become the only "family" the victim knows...
Whether this is a case of trafficking, kidnapping or contributing to the delenquency of a minor, my point remains that predators always seem to find these troubled young kids.

Here's the FBI definition and description of Human Trafficking:
quote:
Human trafficking, believed to be the third-largest criminal activity in the world, is a form of human slavery which must be addressed at the interagency level. Human trafficking includes forced labor, domestic servitude, and commercial sex trafficking. It involves both U.S. citizens and foreigners alike, and has no demographic restrictions. The FBI works human trafficking cases under both its Civil Rights program and its Violent Crimes Against Children program. The majority of human trafficking victims in our cases are U.S. citizens, and we take a victim-centered approach in investigating such cases, which means that ensuring the needs of the victims take precedence over all other considerations.

I agree that at a certain point they don't really have a choice but the image of a young girl being snatched into a van on the side of the road is what a lot of people think of when they hear human trafficking.

Yeah, that's rare in the US, even the LP
The reality is much more sinister...and effective, sadly.
