So dumping one defense-hating HC for another is the answer for Aggy?

If Kelly doesn't want to be a college HC, then he needs to spend some time as an OC in the NFL.

Andy Staples had some bizarre take that there is too much meddling (administration and booster, I guess) at A&M for Chip to want to go there. Is there any truth to that?

The only two coaches that A&M hired that were actual quality head coaches and not someone that "gets A&M" or a running/drinking buddy of a regent or the chancellor were Bear Bryant and Jackie Sherrill.

This isn't an Urban Meyer-type situation. Kubiak left coaching because it was literally killing him.

I found this out after the fact.

He does not want to go back to college. He would even consider being an offensive coordinator in the NFL over becoming a head coach in college again.

No idea who we'll get next year but he still won't be able to beat LSU's 3rd choice type hire.

I know for a fact that Jackie liked to party it up with several boosters and board members.

The meddling mostly comes from what can be essentially (in a shallow cliff's notes way) boiled down to the DFW faction of boosters vs the Houston faction of boosters. Nothing stops either side from messing with their own guy either.

No not really but he was all in once he got to BCS which isn't much different once it gets down to it. (BTW, he wasn't even their first choice, Bo Schembechler changed his mind at the last minute)

Also, your implication that all our other coaches got hired simply b/c they were running buddies w/certain boosters isn't really true either.

Sherman was hired because he coached Mike McKinney's sons.

Sumlin was hired because he was Jim Wilson's buddy.

He was hired b/c they thought bringing in a respectable person was needed to fix the damage caused by Fran. His NFL experience really helped in his hiring as they hoped he could be like Pete Carrol at USC.

Sumlin was one of the hottest names out there at the time. That absolutely wasn't a buddy hire. He was hired b/c he was running a dynamic offense and looked like he could be a home run hire.

You are just plain wrong on this. Were they friendly with some boosters helping them get their foot in the door? Yes. Was it the main reason they were hired? No.

I'm sorry but it's just not as simple and incestuous as you make it out to be.

The "national coaching search" went straight down Highway 6 and then down 290 twice in a row.

A&M doesn't need to hire Chip Kelly. We need to hire a defensive minded coach. Someone like Venables or Aranda.

It sure is when it comes to negotiating contracts.

The last FOUR football coaches have had guaranteed contract extensions without buyouts less than the remaining value of the contract.

The current basketball coach has a $7 million buyout (the remainder of his contract) for one good season.

You guys took our sloppy seconds with Chavis thinking "now we can defeat them"...still can't win your choice in coaches isn't really a solid track record.

We don't have room to talk about anyone's hiring/search process after the buffoonery displayed by our administration the last two Novembers.

Chip Kelly hates recruiting. That's a non-starter. More importantly, he hates dealing with boosters.

As arrogant and stupid as our boosters are, there's no way he'd come.

Yea... You really don't know what you are talking about but go ahead and keep creating scenarios in your head and preaching them as if they are fact if it makes you feel better.
