Chip is obviously done in the NFL. Yes he hates recruiting, but he's never recruited at a place like aggie where all the talent is within the state, plus he already has Texas connections with all the guys he got out of there to go to Oregon.

A&M can also pay him top dollar. I'm not familiar with Sumlins buyout, but if I'm an Aggie booster, fan, or administration, this move just makes too much sense to me. Go out and pay him $5-7 mil per year and automatically become a title contender.

Can you give details on how this works exactly?

I don't understand the love of this man. He did well in a conference that historically has not had great defenses. He would allow the weakest teams to score 20+ points a game. His offense requires his own defense to need double the players (because they have to be on the field so often). I just don't get the appeal. When your strength is having your opponent struggle because of your uptempo offense, I don't see the skill in the coaching.

I have the gut feeling that Kelly will end up at Florida. They have one of the best recruiting bases in the country which is ideal for Chip. He won't need to put in as much effort to get top players there as he would at other places. Plus Florida is a place that just refuses to put up with mediocrity. They fired Ron Zook even though Florida finished ranked in the top 25 in the Coaches Poll all three years he was there. They got rid of Will Muschamp two years after he led them to a top 10 finish. They're not going to keep McElwain around just because he's won a terribly weak SEC East the last two years. Florida is losing a number of top defensive players to the NFL Draft. I see them struggling next year and I think there's a very good chance that they'll get rid of McElwain to go after Chip.

SEC will not be fun for Chip. Recruiting reigns supreme and the competition is intense. You won't sustain success being a lazy recruiter

He left the perfect situation for his skill set. He had a chance to go back and his ego won't allow it.

Sumlin has a ridiculous buyout, plus I'd have to think Kelly was approached by several schools much earlier and apparently isn't very interested in going back to college. I'd think he takes a year off and weighs options. No reason to jump at anything

McElroy-Kelly would not be effective recruiting in Florida. Because he would have to compete with Jimbo, Mark Richt, Kiffin, Charlie Strong for Florida recruits.

LSU is negotiating with him to be our Shadow Passing Coordinator.

The rumor is he tanked this year just to get the opportunity.

A&M has a great strategy to win championships: build more expensive shite & eventually you win.

No idea who we'll get next year but it won't be a 3rd choice type hire.

This isn't an Urban Meyer-type situation. Kubiak left coaching because it was literally killing him.

Kelly, like his Oregon teams, would get destroyed in the SEC.

You guys took our sloppy seconds with Chavis thinking "now we can defeat them"...still can't win your choice in coaches isn't really a solid track record.

A&M needs a strong recruiter as head coach. They can't allow Texas to take over the state. I don't think Kelly would fit well at all at A&M or the SEC.
